I have been looking into getting my first laptop ( which is out of scholastic needs) and i figured that since im forking over some serious dough no matter what the notebook I might as well make it as Bad@$$ as possible. However, I dont know which one to buy.....thats were you guys/girls(?) come in.

Money available: roughly 2145$

What i plan to use it for:
Serious gaming: IE gears of war, unreal tournament...
Video editing
MAYA
photoshop
...

I know this might seem impossible but i need a rig that can handle all that and still meet my budget.

note: i dont care how heavy it is....but i do need a large screen

thanks in advance guys!

You're in an interesting situation, as there are currently no high-end mobile video cards with DirectX 10 capability. If you can wait a few months, you'll be more likely to find a gaming rig that will do what you want it to and last for a while. For now, take a look at the Sager NP5790 and Alienware Area 51 m9750

yeah i kind of need the laptop now since i start school soon and one is required....i could probably scrounge up some more money, but not much, any more ideas?

I edited my above post to include 2 suggestions. The Alienware will be around $350 over the figure you mentioned, and the Sager should be within it

the precision m90's there are basically the same performancewise, and sometimes cheaper. with outlet systems, it's hit or miss in terms of the specs you want.

For video editing get 7,200 RPM hard drives because this is a very demanding task and needs to retrieve data as fast as possible. Get lower speed hard drives and you could risk capture/editing errors or stuttering.

Get at least 1GB of RAM if you're going for 3D animation but advise getting 2GB for better performance.

If you cannot afford the RAM now get at least 1GB and upgrade later.
