4780 and Proxim ORiNOCO pcmcia card causes stuttering

I got my 4780 notebook about a month and a half ago and I love it. Everything is working out beautifully, except my wireless card (Proxim ORiNOCO b/g Gold Combocard) causes the laptop to stutter while in use. It can see the network fine, but while scanning, the sound will stutter (the whole computer is stuttering actually, but it's most noticeable with the sound). When it's connected to the network, it will work fine, but every minute or so it will cause the computer to stutter for about 5-10 seconds, then return to normal. It seems like it's causing 100% cpu usage for split seconds at a time, then is fine for a minute or two, then goes right back at it. I tried staring at the task manager to see if a certain process was causing it, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary.

I've read about similar problems on the Alienware notebook section of this forum, but workarounds they have provided are for their specific software and hardware configurations. I've scoured the net left and right and haven't found anything even remotely related to my problem

I tried upgrading the sound drivers, cardbus drivers, tried the two different versions of my wireless card drivers, connecting to different networks, playing with sound settings (which is pointless because it's causing the whole computer to stutter, not just the sound), all different wireless settings that I can get to, and just about everything else I can think of, and I'm stumped.

If I take the card out... everything works perfectly.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance...

anything? Bueller? Bueller?

It seems to do it especially when there is a significant amount of traffic going through the card... hope this helps?

Dunno I think no one really has any idea maybe you should contact the support offered with the card? Or maybe return it and get another brand? Seems its the card thats causing the problems and not the computer.

Sager 4780 & Proxim Wireless Card

This could be similar, it might not. Earlier today I tried playing an audio CD for the first time through my DVD/CDRW combo drive and was wondering about the sound cutting in and out, imagined it was a problem with the drive as I was also having trouble in the past reading other CD's and some backup DVDs. After reading your thread I popped out the PCMCIA card and the CD's playing beautifully now. Might be a problematic drive on my side, but I'll keep playing with things and see if its realted.

You haven't happened to have had problems reading some CDs or DVDs while you have your wireless card in? (BTW, I'm using the Avaya Wireless Gold - 802.11b. It's proxim, but rebadged as Avaya.)

Cheers!

one other note...

I do not have problems playing MP3s from the hard drive, the sound quality has been excellent.
