PredatorII. Time for a new case or no?

I'm waiting for a new Alienware desktop case design and am wonding two things:

Is it time?

What should it be?

P3. A borg CUBE. An Alienware Logo head. A Saucer shaped case.

I'd like to see a portable cube, but only if it doesn't replace the current desktop design.

No matter what they do, someone's going to complain...

If the case bothers you that much, why not just build your own. The P2 is relatively new, so I doubt they'll be revising the desktop case anytime soon.

Seriously, the P2 is not that old at all. I think it is pretty mean looking.

Find a used P1 on eBay and build your own if you don't like the P2. I am building one based on a P1 right now. It's been kind of fun so far.

Who would complain?

After the P2 was introduced, I did buy a P1.5 from the AW outlet and modified the case for watercooling. Except for the vidcards that computer is up to date.

Fine, I'll just sit here and twiddle my fingers until AW designs a new case.

Every time AW does something, there are complainers. Every time AW doesn't do something, there are complainers. I remember people complaining about every case AW has used since 1999, and I also remember complaints about every case change.

People didn't like the hydraulic because it was too plain, then AW went with the chieftec dragon, and people complained that it was too big, and that the front bezel was plastic, though the hydraulic was as well. People complained that the dragon could be bought elsewhere with a plain bezel, and the case was too big. When the predator came out, people complained that it looked like an art deco toaster, others complained it was about time they replaced the dragon, but they didn't like the new case...

Don't take my comments personally nebulous, I agree I'm not a big fan of the P2 myself, but AW made a huge investment in developing the case so it's not likely to be changed soon.

And you might like the next gen case even less...

I loved the hydraulic!

Hydraulic case.

Dragon case, and Predator case

The groupshot, though I have another black and blue predator case now...

Nice lineup!

IMO (I know I don't own an AW....but I still have an opinion :P) it would be really hard to design a case for AW. It needs to have that AW feel but it can't just appeal to a 14 year old. The Predator came close being too over the top IMO but there older style cases I like.........IDK but whoever designs their cases has a tough job.

I like the P2 case myself, but everyone has different tastes.
I love the P2, I don't want them to design a new one. Maybe you could pick from multiple cases...
I agree boomheadshot45! Multiple off the shelf best of the best cases I would welcome in addition to R&D'n new and improved Alienware designs.

Know that idea is not anything new and would introduce all kinds of build challenges and complaints of 'I can egg that one for cheaper' etc...but would be a nice option with Alienware build quality and lighting/cooling touches.

There's still the workstation case, but it's not in the options anymore for gaming systems...

I love the P2. Yeah you can't satisfy everyone

In my opinion, the P2 case is wickedly cool. Most of the mainstream computer manufacturers have the mentality that style doesn't matter, (especially since desktops are usually not visible to anybody outside the immediate family and or friends) so why put an effort into case design?

AW is different in this regard. They have thought about design for desktops and strive to give the public a unique product that represents who they are, so I say thanks to AW for continuing to be different from the other manufacturers.

An example for all of you: Which case do you like best? The Dell is my current desktop...

Sorry to admitt, I'd prefer this.

Voodoo however is even more expensive than AW, the paint on this case for instance is $805. I will hang with a Watercooled P1.5 until AW comes out with something compelling.
nebulous - I actually like the looks of the voodoo case as well. The Predator (either 1 or 2) is a style that grows on you. I like the fact that it's different. In our house, it is a conversation piece, as you can imagine most of our middle-aged + friends have never seen an Alienware computer. The P2 case looks better in person, than in the pics.
Yeah Voodoo cases are wicked cool but a decent spec'd voodoo would cost a lot more than an AW.

Also that dell case is like 3 years old and has been replaced....they aren't AS ugly now.
I personally think the Voodoo desktop cases are butt ugly, and I'm not about to pay an additional $2000 for similar hardware in an ugly case. I wouldn't pay a $2000 premium for similar hardware in a beautiful case either.
