Not really much we can do just yet... the latest Nibitor still does not (officially) support the newer 8xxx BIOS files yet. I don't think it has the proper protocols to save the VBIOS on a newer card anyway (not sure on this, don't have an 8 series card to try on) Without being able to get into the BIOS of the card, there is no way possible yet to change clockspeeds. Hopefully as soon as Nibitor supports these cards we will be able to easily hack the BIOS once again to allow for easy software clock changes and voltage/timing editing.

Actually I take that back... it looks like you can get a proper BIOS dump using Nibitor, its just Nibitor doesn't have proper support for them yet. They are working on building up a database of BIOS files right now and soon hope to have the new cards supported out of the box. This means you can use Nibitor to hex edit the BIOS to your hearts content, but the changes will not necessarily correlate with what they would do on say a 7xxx GPU.

If you would like to dump the BIOS using Nibitor 3.4a, feel free to do so and send it to me at -

I will be happy to look at the dumped BIOS file and see if there is anything I can do with it.

From reading some threads over @ notebookreview, I believe they are unlocked because I see ppl posting about getting their 8400's very close to the performance of an 8600 via oc'ing.....

That's a pretty huge overclock considering it needs to overcome not only the slower initial clock speeds, but 1/2 the number of pipes and 1/2 the memory pipe width....

to equal an 8600, an 8400 has to have double the memory clock and double the shader clock of the 8600.... that's going to be something like a 3-4x increase over stock...

Two words: call Dell....

If they can't make it right, then get complete care and accidently throw the lappy down a few flights of stairs - VOILA new lappy

I don't mean to sound rude, but did Dell send you a XP OS w/ the system? So you tried to install OS that did not come with the system on to your laptop, it fails, and you blame Dell for that? I don't even think Dell will help you since you are trying to install a OS that didn't come with the system.

It just sounds like you F'ed up the system yourself, and you blame everyone else for it lol... sounds like my sister.

Anyways good luck.

i was trying to install xp but it needs some other driver for the hd, it has vista on it right now, cant seem to get it over about 560/480?? and with settings on med in bf2142 and fraps going its going at like 60-90fps but making sudden movements it glitches?? im guessing maybe a driver issue? i have the one from dell, all the others wouldnt let me overclock.

i tried 3dmark05 and at 565/480 i scored 6450, played bf2142 at about the same as before after i lowered one thing to medium instead of high, how come i cannot clock much higher and i have to reset it everytime i start windows, i think it may load up as under rivatuner i have it set to start with windows but some thing always pops up and i have to allow it to start and then it starts at stock clocks 475/400 man i wish some decent drivers would come out, or just be easy like my old 7900gs and burn a cd and whoolaaa

The need to overclock a laptop is friggin stupid. There's no way i'm blowing the amount of money spent on one of these bad girls just for 10 extra frames. If you have major issues, then get 2gb ram. bf2 and 2142 SUCKED for me until i upgraded the ram. no matter WHAT my specs were on both desktops and LAPTOPS.

I agree with Jah, 90% of the time if you get a random skip, and you notice your hard drive simultaineously goes off at that same time, you are short on RAM my friend. Its paging like a mother f-r......

Check if what I say is happening.
