Well, I bit the bullet and purchased the M6805 rather than wait for the 6809. Frankly, I had hoped to purchase the 6809 but finally gave in at $1299 since BB had a $250 rebate plus they threw in some CDRs, tons of points and some other cheap freebies. The 6809 specs are not so dramatically different from 6807 except as to processor. Will 3200+ make huge difference? Probably not since others have already upgraded their 680* to 3400+ without great difficulty.
I expect the AMD 3400+ to drop soon since newer models expected out within next 3 months. Also, if the Toshiba SD-R6112 actually fits and works (http://avlogic.com/product.cgi?code=18030172
), then the price differential isn't worth the wait.
I'm expecting the 6809 to come out sometime after May 1 since current rebates expire on said date. I don't think EM will offer any rebates because (1) Gateway needs the $$$; (2) it will be a hot selling product for at least a few months; and (3) any rebates will fall in the "back to school" purchase zone in August anyways...
Best of luck on waiting...
DugDug, did you install the Toshiba unit or know someone who did? I wouldn't mind upgrading eventually but concerned about pin configuration as well as drivers.
