on 575/475 i scored 7100, on 550/450 i just played bf2142 on high settings and it ran at 60fps or so, give or take, i just installed windows xp on my 1720, it came with vista all i had to do was switch something with the hd in the bios, im using ntune to overclock. my system is a t5450 1.66,1g 667mhz ram,120gb 5400rpm hd, nvidia 8600m gt, using driver 165.01.

seems i can only go to about 590/480 and i start having problems, maybe a driver issue?? i hope so because i think this card is capable of more, im very surprised on the results i have got though, the 8600m gt is not bad at all, overclocked to the max my 7900gs scored about 8300 and most people dont even run that so this card is more then able to play any current game out, also tested company of heros earlier

8,300 on a 7900GS overclocked? that's a little low. I would expect scores in the 9,000 range.

what were your scores at stock speeds on that 8600?

i wrote it down somewhere ill look at my score i think it was 5k something, but my processor is bottlenecking my system i think.

scored 6143 on stock speeds, it shows stock at 475/400

burn it up! LOL. You still need to get 2gb ram for bf2 performance. Especially if you are using vista. Hell, 2gb wasn't enough with vista. OH yeah, and stupid bf2 gives me this error about insufficient os privileges when i turned off all UAC crap as well as the fact that i'm an admin, of course.

good for you, sadly my 7900GTX OC'd to 600 by 700 tight timings the only game it plays at close to my settings happily that i want to play is planetsie. BF2 is a typical fukwit game made by EA the games good fun but EA are specialests in fukin up a game by other means.

just ran again, 520/435 6380 how much would 2g help as far as running games, 1g right now seems to do ok on bf, in what ways would 2g help?
Absolutely, I'd recommend 2 gb ram now for gaming and even 2-3 years ago BF used more than 1 GB.

if i turn the memory up much more over 490 it shits, but the core goes way up, only if the memory is on or around stock setting of 400?
I get 9200 on my everyday overclock on my GS card... Plus my card has been overclocked straight for more than 8 months with no problems... <knock on wood>

Pretty rude, mycrx. If the kid is happy with his system, good for him. Still though, the 7950GTX is the true powerhouse. 10,407 at 1024x768 and 9,300 at 1440x900 here.

i wish i had a 7950, but im just showin some results on the 8600m gt so i duno why he even compared it to a high end 7 series.

the chassis may look better, but the lack of dvi/hdmi sucks . . especially to those that use digital monitors like projectors/plasmas/lcds. . Also the IQ on the 8600 vs 7900 is identical, however performance is not, the 7900 at stock is faster, and overclock it blows it out of the water

Quick comparison of similarily spec'd systems, stock on Doom 3 (timedemo 1)

9400/e1705 with 7900gs
Low: 161.1 fps
Medium: 162.2 fps
High: 155.0 fps
Ultra: 116.4 fps

Dell 1720 with 8600
Low: 96.7 fps
Medium: 97.5 fps
High: 91.7 fps
Ultra: 59.7 fps

Seriously . . Look at DOOM 3 Ultra settings ..
Dell 9400 with 7900 gpu = 116.4 fps
Dell 1720 with 8600 gpu = 59.7 fps .. . really? . . thats nearly half the speed!
(asking why? bandwidth ... basically its because the 7900 has a 256bit memory bus found on higher end cards, vs the lower end 128bit memory bus of the 8600) . .
and future games are going to show this high-bandwidth requirement trend more and more . . you'll see.

btw I have both systems with me, and I agree the 1720 looks a bit nicer (more modern), but the 1705 is a much better system (gpu and ports).. (the 1720 was a replacement for my brothers 1705, which I will be returning, they are now sending out an m1710 to replace that instead )

id like to get a m1710 but i first bought my 1705 refubished so i highly doubtb they r gonna do that for me, also if i can play bf2142 this is more then enough for me people on a budget should really think about the 1720 the 8600 isnt bad at all, its medium-high ran as were the 7900gs is high-low range, my 7900gs at stock speeds scored around 6k, the 8600m gt scored 6142 when i first bought it, its only a 1.66 processor too, overclocked on a shitty driver at 520/480 i scored 7300 and thats about half as high as i can go with it, need way better drivers.
