Need Help with New Laptop, PLZ!!!

Thread Starter
Okay guys I'm ordering a laptop for college tomorrow night, and this whole time i was focused on the HP dv9500t series. I am trying to stay under 1500 dollars and i got this one to about that price with these specs

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz
Vista Premium
17" Brightview Screen
2 GB Ram
511MB Nvidia GeForce 8600M GS
160 gb harddrive
DVD RW

but i was looking at the graphics card and i wasn't sure if it was good, so i went onto these forums and people were saying to go with the 8600 GT because it has twice the shader filters or some shit like that, but they made it seem so much better, and someone posted a link to the benchmarks and it was a lot better. so i just went to dell and made this laptop

My ComponentsJet Black

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7300 (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB/4MB cache)

Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Edition

Glossy, widescreen 15.4 inch display (1280x800)

256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT

2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 667MHz

Size: 120GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)

CD / DVD writer (DVD+/-RW Drive)

Intel® 3945 802.11a/g Mini-card

Built-in Bluetooth capability (2.0 EDR)

No Webcam Option

85Whr Lithium Ion Battery (9 cell)

Integrated Sound Blaster® Audigy™HD Software Edition

which one should i get if i'm going to be using this for mainly gaming with, WoW, half life 2, doom 3, and unreal tournament 3 when it comes out.

they're both about 1500 dollars, so price isn't going to be a factor. i'm assuming the dell is better, just want to see your opinions, thanks.

my opinion... go with the dell.

the 8600, besides dx10 support is not really that much better than the 7600 in the real world performance side of things. in benchmarks it looks like a lot but the 8600 in its current form is really a mid range card. regardless of what you pick the 8600 is still slower than the 7950gtx cards out there (but it does have DX10).

in the end i would go with the dell, i know their warranty support is good, especially if you are getting the completecare and at home service. its important if you are using it for school, since if it goes down in the school year then you cant be waiting for a long time to get it working properly. a 17inch laptop for gaming really shouldnt be done without a top of the line video card. the best performance for the mid range cards is found on the 15.4 inch screens. which is exactly what the dell has.
