Sager n5660 cheap paint?

Just wondering if anyone else had this problem. I've had my Sager for about 1.5 mo and all around the screen(on the back/cover too) and on the sides of the keyboard as well, greyish black scuff marks and other little imperfections are starting to appear. I don't bang the unit around that much. When I transport it it goes in my Targus backpack and I'm careful not drop it, etc.

Also the little clearish thing around the touchpad(where your hands rest when you are typing) is getting all sorts of crap under it. Any good ways to clean it out or remove it?

thanks

Is it the wristpad? I know PCTorque posted some pictures on how to remove the wrist pads. Look in the picture section or do a search.

Yes thats what I'm talking about. I'll search for it, thanks.

More worried about the first part.

Thanks for your help

did you get it painted? Hopefully the paint isn't rubbing off or anything...

I don't think the original is painted though, I think the plastic is just molded to that color. what do you mean exactly, by "scuff marks?" Just bits of dust? Because, hopefully, that's what it is.

Nah its the grey colored sager - no paint mods. Its just like black marks on the areas mentioned above. I tried rubbing them off but it did nothing.

I'm not really all that concered about this but just curious of anyone had the same problem and/or had discovered a way to remove it.

Lol i have the same thing with the top of my 86, no biggy just little tiny "scratches" that you can only see when the light is just right. I think mine is from my case as well (forgot what kind it is), maybe just put some felt (sp, like the cloth stuff) in the case, should stop the problem lol. Lol im also getting shiny spots on the space bar because i type to much, over all hehe sager = teh ownz lol

No, the 56xx is DEFINATELY painted that metalic grey... And it does scratch.

The primer is a darker grey, and the base plastic is white.

I've had my laptop for about 9 months, now, and the paint appears to have reacted to the acid in my skin, as well as scratching from my watch (which I now take off when I work at my laptop).
The portion of the case below the keyboard has rubbed to white, and the buttons on the touchpad have rubbed to dark grey. Looks pretty awful.
Sigh...

Aside from this, I love this beast.

The black scuff marks might be from the original case or your current case. I found that mine started to have black scuffs on both sides of the outside of my screen lid. I figured out they were caused by the black velcro straps that are inside the generic black case they come in. Couldnt get them out either.

The entire casing does get a lot of small scratches and scuffs though. Once I figure out what to do with my current paint job i am definately going to get a light cloth casing/ Bag for my Sager.

Hmmm... Nope.

You can definately see the lighter paint flaking off from over the darker primer. Other scuff marks that haven't scraped down to the white base are the same color.

I'm not complaining (much), this machine is really my desktop replacement, and I use it better than 12 hours a day. Still, my IBM, in black plastic didn't have this problem...

Ah, well...

What about the 8887?

My 8887 is on order and should be with me next week. What about the finish on that? I'm also a heavy user and intend to use the 8887 as a desktop replacement - I'm not keen on it looking like a nasty piece of hite plastic junk after a few months.

Re: What about the 8887?

Never had a problem with any of the demo models and some were used daily in the field taken in and out of carrying cases. Never had anyone email with any problem like this other than the old Sager models from a few years back. We have Dell, Toshiba, Apple, and IBM laptops here and the quality of the Sager is as good as any of them.

A friend of mine uses his all the time, and on the palm rests the paint has chipped off, and its down to the white base plastic color....not cheap, but kinda bad that it does that, he doesnt care he's still happy with it, but it makes sense , i think dells and such are molded the color that they are.

yea, i have seen the problem before.. i guess it is just a fact of the sagers....

This is the 8887? Craps. About how long does the paint last?

Other than this post, I hadn't seen or noticed any issues with the 56XX and the 88XX series and paint at all. I have seen some older models wear and I believe Sager takes care of it for them.

Yep just baby your laptop and take good care of it and it will take good care of you

I'll make sure tot use mine without anything on my hand/wrist. Also dont abuse the palm rest and im sure the paint would not deteriorate but what do I know I dont have one yet lol

I have no noticable wear on my palmrests on my 8887; of course, ColorWare painted it, so it may have a better finish (Lord, I hope so!)

I am nuts...

I place a soft towel on top of the wristpad and place my hands on that. It prevents the heat from coming through to my hands and it keeps the laptop clean

I never use the touchpad anyway...so I dont miss not seeing it

The 5660's paint job seems to be very good quality. Only time will tell i guess...lessee...
