Did I install my processor correctly?

I recently bought and installed an AMD X2 4000 processor and when I started up my pc everything ran fine but in dxdiag is labels the processor as "AMD Hammer Family - Model Unknown". I then run windows game advisor and my processor scores a 4.1 which is significantly lower than my other components. What did I miss? Do I have to install drivers or such, if so I can't find a link to my product.

The reason it says AMD Hammer Family model unknown is your motherboard's bios doesnt have a record of the Athlon x2 4000 so it doesnt know what to call it. To fix that you can update the bios but it wont hurt anything to leave it alone.

As for drivers, heres AMD's site downloads. You may need the dual core optimizer if you're on XP. But it sounds like you're on vista, so you shouldnt need it.

sounds to me you havnt installed the chipset drivers eaither???

i get a lot of the generic names when i dont install chipset drivers too

and if you installed the proc wrong, or put in wrong proc for the slot, you would definatly know it once you booted it up

eaither sparks would fly, smoke would show, or flat out wouldnt boot up :P

Ha no my PC's been running fine for almost a year, just didn't know why this thing was showing up. Thanks for the prompt posts I wont touch anything. I was concerned my proc. scored a 4.1 for bein an AMD x2 4000 but I guess this proc. just isn't that fast anymore.
