well just FYI the 5th option (mod case) was more sarcasm than anything since it's not really a viable option.

dont really like it, seems much thicker and the carbon fiber is a cheap imitation of some other companies that do it really well (asus or acer cant remember)

but, if they make faceplates, i dont think it'll be terrible, just the size

Wonder if a m1710 lid would fit on this lol
and a palm rest, I hate it on the left side like that Stupid Stupid Stupid...

i really like the m1710, red or black are sexy as hell, even the m170 is beautiful imho
i don't like the m1730, i could be nice i suppose but i think it is gaudy, and only 4 usb ports... why? seems like a downgrade from the m1710 especially with the current gpu options. i got complete care for 5 years, so i hope the next gen is nicer looking, because when this dies, i want something better...

I don't mind it too much. They are obviously using the same bodyas the new Inspirons. I prefer the old one though the M1710, much nicer. Are there any options for different colours on the lid etc ?

IMO, I think that is one of the ugliest models Dell has come out with. I am wondering why they came out with a chasis that is so bulky? Is this thing getting ready for some SLI action or are they possibly adding some room to accomodate one of the new GPU's that has been giving them a hard time when it comes to cooling?
SLI action is why it is bulky........8700gt's in SLI is about as good as you can get for the upcoming DX10 games.......hopefully Nvidia can come out with a good mobile card in their G92 lineup.

I'm tempted to buy one of the current XPS M1710 models, think it's a much nicer looking machine ! lets see when it comes out what it has on it.

Anyone know when they are set to release it ?

Oh. I was referring to my old P4 rig. If need be, I'd probably buy a SLi mobo and grab an 8 series gfx card and build it again. but there might be hope with further upgrades on the old inspiron frame if the M6300's gfx cards would work on 1710, m90 and 9400/e1705 mobos. Seems like a longshot and unlikely that dell would do this, but hey, you never know.

I wouldn't mind 1730 as long as SLI option is affordable. Looks may be horrible, but I'm pretty sure they will have different color options which will look better than the corny red scheme it has right now.

If the new XPS isn't affordable, I'm going to new M90's route which looks decent as for now.

I wonder if the M6300's parts will be able to pop into the M90's
post #32 of 84
It doesn't look like it has a docking option either!
yuck!
only a 8600M

won't that get killed by a 7900gtx? a 7900gs?

when are they coming out with #800 and #900 cards? the 700's and 600's are unacceptable

I would think with this kind of a poll response (granted XPS users are a niche market) That they could have designed it a tad better. At least make it look like it's sleek lol.

..Oh did I mention I use 5 USB ports...?

-G15 Keyboard
-Wireless laser mouse
-Belkin UPS
-External drive
-Printer

I need a USB hub even with my 6-ported i9400:

Mouse
Keyboard
SB Live
Remote Sensor
Joystick
Steering Wheel
Gamepad
Printer
Hard Drive
PDA Sync
MP3 Sync
Remote Sync

...so the more USB, the better

i love my xps1710 fully loaded, but i think in 6 months im going to sell it and get a 2nd 24" monitor, build a nice quad core desktop with sli, and an $800 laptop for travelling, I dont ever want anything as thick as this 1730. my previous 9100 was bad as it should ever get.

Physically they would all fit. But in order to upgrade your M90's video card you'd have to buy an M6300 mainboard and a new CPU to go with it. No doubt the M90 BIOS would never recognize an M6300's video card.

well I think the poll speaks for itself. 82 votes & 1 person things it looks good. Makes me wonder where Dell got it's design inspiration on this one...

I would rather rape myself in a thornbush than have to stare at that all day.
