People here didnt like the 1720 either but I guess they're selling decently. I will admit though that I dont see anything even mildly attractive about this laptop's physical appearance.

Yeah the 1720 at least had decent looks....this thing truly is just an eyesore and should be removed from the face of the earth immediately

The 1720 looks beautiful next to the m1730. It's like comparing Jessica Alba to Rosie O'Donnell.

I agree with ya. When this ugly gets released, shouldn't the XPS M1710 price drop significantly? not quite on the subject, but it'd be good to know. Release date I think is 27th of August.

I saw a picture of it in the dark with Lights on. Top rightcorner is a screen and the Led lights are back. Also looks like the touchpad may change color. But it is mighty thick as we allready know.

Dont want that beast just yet. My fully loaded M1710 is heavy enough and dont even get me started on the power brick.

I doubt you are going to see a significant price drop on the 1710 at least until the end of this year. a mint condition XPS 2 still commands a decent price & it was released several years ago.

Do ya think Dell will stop selling the 1710 when the 1730 is released? History shows that when they release a new line they automatically discontinue the previous line. They stopped selling the 9300 when the 1705 was released. They stopped selling the 1705 when the 1720 was released. They stopped selling the M170 when the M1710 was released. What makes anyone think they won't stop selling the M1710 when the M1730 is released? The only place on the Dell site where you can buy previous models is in the outlet. And to add to the question of whether they will lower the price on the 1710, Dell just raised it. The start price was 2299. I just went to the site and the start price is now 2398.

Looks like it'll have SLI indeed... nice! I also love that CPU and RAM display, could be quite useful. Looks like this laptop has made an entrance to my replacement options.

Still looks butt ugly but since it's got SLI, it becomes an option provided it's affordable (~ to the price of a 7950gtx for example) and (even more so if they let us customize a color other than that. I'd change the keyboard color because it looks like something that belongs on a cheap Compaq and apparently it leaves fingerprint marks. I really want to see some benchmarks with the SLI option before I make a decision.

bah CPU/RAM display is fodder... If I want data (not a bar graph mind you) I will use my G15 keyboard. It's a nice toy for a week (just like the lights) but as soon as the novelty wears off....

I am going to wait to see what other laptop makers come out with. I would like a Sli laptop, but I am sure there will be something that looks a lot better than the Dell offering, perhaps on their AW side.

I love Dell (ask anyone that knows how many of their laptops I have) but this design just makes me want to hit my head...

and yes the keyboard doesn't look right... And the final thing that has continued to bother me is the size of the battery.... It looks a little smaller & I can't imagine the battery life on this thing.

Something I might want to see on the led display: Current volume level, temperatures, fanspeed, cpu usage, battery percentage, some random information about the physics card, cant think of anything else.

I'll admit the old look was rather bland but it was useful and not unpleasing to the eye.

I don't think that the aesthetics are that bad for the laptop. It's a little bit over the edge but a person can still deal with it. lol
