Sometimes you don't even know you have dead/lit pixels unless you run some kind of pixel programs. The best is a program that let you run cycles of colors on your desktop so dead/lit pixels will stand out like sore thumb. Check out the link below. it's a little java script that let's you pick out dead pixel/s:

Why are all these screens getting dead pixels like that ? Are they using a cheap screen manufacturer?

So far 10 out of 25 system have dead pixel.

That is pretty bad to me.

When I frist received my system I had a solid white stuck pixel about an inch and a half or so down/inch to the right which was very noticeable on really dark or black images - or parts of images where that pixel was. It was like a white spec of liquid or dirt or something glaring at me.

Not long after that a blue one popped up more in the center and a little to the left on the screen that wasn't so bad.

A couple days into using machine - these pixels mysteriously disapeared. I changed my mind on sending the system back yet.

I've only seen the white one pop back up very briefly once. This has me nervous cuz I am wondering if it will eventually stick for good. I'm pondering once again about returning machine because that white pixel is just agrevating. I like to have dark wallpapers and a lot of movies have dark backgrounds where it shows up. I see the pixel stick again in the next couple weeks I will send it back for another machine.

Return policy is 30 days for full refund.

3 months screen replacement if you have a dead pixel in the center area.

they cross shipped mine because of one dead pixel in the center area.
it was because of the 10 day policy

Yeah, I know that I have a limited time to return machine. I still have a couple weeks to go, but I wonder if it's likely that the stuck pixel would pop back up on a regular basis or stick for good if the screen has worked fine for most the time I had it so far?

Not sure there's an answer to that oblivion Probably a case-by-case thing. Might be a 50-50 deal. Who knows. *shrugs*

Got a blue one located on the lower right portion of my 8790's screen. Still thinking if I want to replace this unit. Does anyone know if I can just swap my current 8790's HDD to a new unit without any hitches? (in order to avoid lengthy process of reinstalling all my applications all over again)

if the hardware is identical you (probably) won't have a problem

As said numerous times these types of polls/threads are not a good indication of the severity of this problem. You well get very skewed results of actual percentages. Not to mention they are using the one and only screen manufacturer of the 17" wxga so there is no choice in this.

In case I do, just return it in 30 days and reorder one?

No, it's not real accurate, but as good as a poll can get on a forum that has fans of various laptop brands.

One example of the poll being off is litehedded voted he had a dead pixel, but doesn't own an 8790, he has a 5680. MarkS voted he has a dead pixel but doesn't even appear to own a Sager as he's never even posted in the Sager section, only in the Dell section about the XPS. I didn't go through all the voters but there could be more and some invalid votes on either side of the poll. This is why any polls such as this and "rate your experience" are not going to be completely accurate unless we made everyone register with their order numbers. As long as you keep that in mind, the polls are fine and you can take them for what they're worth.

Every laptop demo model I've ever bought (and currently have) of all laptop brands have never had a dead or stuck pixel believe it or not (and I have a ton of laptops lol). But wouldn't you know it, I recently bought my first external LCD for personal use (secondary display)... a CTX 19" LCD and it has a stuck blue pixel =).

I have an 8890 so I am not able to take part in the poll. It does have 2 dead pixels right next to eachother on the very edge. Since the 8890 pixels are so small they are hard to notice and not worth returning.
