They charge 110 for Norton Virus and optimization, optimization meaning they erase all the junk on my computer i dont need. Should i just go ahead and do it, becaus i need to buy a anti virus anyways and then they do that. What do they all erase, how much GB do they really save? is it worth it or can i do it myself? Can anyone give me a list of stuff i can erase? i have a Toshiba, just bought it from Circuit City.

Don't do it.........

There are way better AV software for free, you can easily delete any programs you don't need.

I use this AV software.

If you have your notebook right now open up the task manager and tell us how many processes are running?

is this one free? for how long?

Forever and that is just one of them.

Dont pay someone to "optimize" your computer just go to control panel add/remove programs.

Sounds like the same scam BB does. (Wonder were that scamer is now anyways? )

Circuit City won't do anything you can't do yourself.

Best Buy's optimization process changes around your registry to speed some things up, so it's not a total scam Darq.

Sure its not.

Hey what do I know I just point and laugh at windows anyways.

basically here is everything you need to know:

1 - use AVG or Avast as your AV (both free, forever)
2 - install spybot S&D, update, scan, clean, immunize
3 - install CCleaner for various things.
4 - open up add/remove progs and remove everything you don't need
5 - go to Control Panel > System > Advanced > Performance and turn everything down/off
6 - Install latest or optimized (omega, ngo, etc) drivers
7 - DEFRAG

I would personally recommend against it- as other posters have noted, there are other antivirus programs that are free, not to mention work better and take up less of your computer's processor and memory to work well. Also, wouldn't you rather be the one determining what's "the junk you don't need" rather than somebody else?

I agree, and just to add to that. If you take a look down at your local Library they'll probably have some books on how to optimize Windows anyway. Won't take a lot of reading to get results.

Google might be able to save you a trip. Try blackviper, too. It's an interesting site.

Seriously, I think that money will be better spent on a "basic computer course". That way, you learn how to do that yourself, and can do it again and again on every computer you own for free.

No sense in paying over 100 bux for that, when you can do it yourself for free and it doesn't take a genious to figure out/learn how to do.

Better yet, pick up a computers for dummies book, save yourself 90 bux, and do the stuff on your own.

Heck, I'm sure you can find a friend or co-worker that knows how to do this stuff, buy him a beer and save your money.

thanks guys, i get Mcafree for 30 days for free w laptop and i did forget that i got a free anti virus . i got that all in one printer, router and internet software deal from circuit city and i do know how to unistall programs but i know the main ones i can get rid of like google bar, napster, yahoo jukebox, etc etc but i dont know the the "undercover" ones i can get rid of just the obvious one.
you should be fine if you just get rid of the obvious ones. Depending on whay AV you got in the printer bundle you still may be better off using a free AV mentioned above (they tend to work just as good as the $$$ ones and use less computer resources while running in the back ground)

Another thing I always do is click start, click run, type in msconfig, click on startup tab and uncheck things like MSN messenger, AIM, iTunes etc. So all those programs don't start when I turn my computer on.

A must... Got asked by my neighbour to check that his Core Duo was OK the other day. Now my good ol single core here, will display msconfig in 1 second flat from the run command. But his Toshiba two-core took over 20 secs (no lie) to do the same thing. Startup tab was full of the usual checked rubbish new laptops usually come with...

of course a good solution (err..prevention) to the original problem is to buy the computer NO-OS.

I dont run AV crap. I think companies overhype spyware in order for you to buy their crap. Sure a virus can hit home now and then, but for the most part, youll be fine. Ive been AV, AS free for 6 months and my system actually runs faster w/o those stupid programs in there to begin w/

As for you, just do it yourself, save yourself the 100
