USB 2.0 Driver Install Problem?

I would like to get info, or the problem resolved, before my 5660 arrives on Friday. I have read several post with peeps having problems installing the drivers for the USB 2.0. Here is the latest link with this problem.
http://www.resellerratings.com/forum/t41880.html and another
http://sagerforums.com/forums/showth...s=&threadid=96

So whats up with this? If its a buggy install program\exe then we need a fix or instructions on how to install the drivers correctly. I've heard one solution, is to go to the device mgr and re-install the drivers...well that ok except that were do you point the install to? There is no folder on the CD, or on the drivers from Sager's website, that is labled WinXP. Only Win98\ME. Now there is a CAB folder that labled XP but thats BS. Comon. Who wants to finish their clean install of their OS with a BS USB driver install!!!

PS Just read the ReadMe Note from the drivers off of Sagers site. Perhaps this is the problem, a war between VIA and Microsoft....LOL

"NOTE: In order to conform to the redistribution agreement between Microsoft
and VIA, You can ONLY use SETUP.EXE to install driver in Windows XP
and Windows 2000".

Adam?????

I'll try to clear it up for everyone as soon as I can with a step by step explanation later today.

If you read the document file, you will see that there is no WinXP install and that it points you to the Windows Update site for any new USB 2.0 drivers.

Just follow the steps I wrote for the 8886 for the USB 2.0 and it should work the same way.
THIS THREAD

If it doesn't do anything when you attempt to run the .exe file, just do it through the device manager.

Read Link XP SP1

Found this info on Microsofts site http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/e...eptember09.asp and this one is interesting http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q312370

Also thanks Adam on the heads up response about the driver install

I can't get the drivers to install at all. I installed SP1 before trying to install the USB2 drivers though. I double click the icon and nothing happens. My USB 1 mouse works fine but it shows a USB 2 controller as not being installed.

Have you tried it through the device manager to update the driver? After installing SP1 does it still show up as "?" or "!" int he device manager?

Yep, that works. I just let it search the CD and it found it!

How I did it:

open the CAB file (in WinXP just double click it) and drag the files in the cab to some place on the harddrive.

The goto device manager, right click the USB controller and "update" the driver. Make it point to the location where you dropped the content of the CAB file.

This worked great for me (I'm using Windows XP Pro from the MS Select CD - so not activated).
