Hi. I have a Area51 7700 that i bought off ebay. It was working fine, then i tried to turing it on today and the LCD monitor will not come on. Anyone have any ideas what might have caused this to happen? I have been told that the HD is dead?

there is alot of causes
but i have some questions that help in the Diagnosis
do you hear the windows opening? do you see Faint picture or no picture at all?
does the backlight work or black Screen?
does the HDD/CD light blink always or don't blink at all?

7700 is dieing every where damn this is the 6th one i heard of in the past few days

Lets see.

There is no sound of windows starting up.
The CD starts up, then the HDD sounds like it starts up.
There is nothing on the screen. Like it isnt getting power. Looks like its turned off.
And none of the HDD/CD lights are lighting up. only light i see is the battery/plug light and it is not blinking. Just a constantant green light for that. O, and the power button light, which is blue.

Besides those lights it looks like its turned off, but it sounds like its on.

there is more than one diagnosis
it looks like a DEAD Mother Board they are dieing ALOT these days ( what is you MOBO version )
but you may need to perform some tests before signing final ( Cirtificate of Death ) for the MOBO

is your 7700 still under warranty?

it might be Dead RAM ( try differnet combination & try every RAM stick alone )
it might be Dead VGA card

i don't think it's anything else

try & reply & i hope i can help

Hmm..i tried the ram trick and nothing happen

I dont know what MOBO its =(
No. It is not under warranty anymore.
Dont know about the VGA card.

I was having problems with the hard drive before this happen. Could the HDD be the problem still?

Shouldn't the screen atleast come on to do a RAM check like a regular PC? Becuase when i press the power button, the only thing that seems to happen is the CD spins up, then a little bit later, either the HDD spins up or its the fans in the system coming on.
