Ok so the touchpad works fine when in Safe Mode but as soon as the machine is launched in normal windows mode the device stops working.

I have reinstalled the device driver and checked to make sure that it is visible within the mouse properties under control panel.

I am now stumped as to what is causing this issue, so any pointers would be appreciated.

Hmm, that is very weird. You may want to try going to hp.com and looking for an update to your driver. it almost sounds like a windows update or something might have messed with it, thats very bizarre for it to just stop working, and for it to work in safe mode nonetheless. Look for an update, if this is unsuccessful i would have to think that there is something starting up with your system that is disabling or interfering with your touchpad. i don't know how long this has been going on for you but have you tried system restore as well? good luck let me know how it goes.

Hi and thanks for the response. I have tried the latest driver from HP but that has not fixed the issue. The problem has been quite long term probably a month or so and I have just lived with it. I may try to check out the msconfig to see if there is anything in there that is interrupting the touchpad driver when working in normal windows mode. I'll be sure to let you know.

It turned out to be the touchpad was disabled in the control panel mouse setting. I only discovered this after remotely assisting the user via the internet. Thanks to all that helped.
