Crysis is coming, need to build a monster

Hey guys..

Man I haven't posted here in ages!

Basically I've been on the notebook side for too long, it's time to build a gaming desktop. Here are parts I already have and will be using: 21" Samsung LCD and Audigy Gamer sound card.
My budget: $1000.
I need this setup to run Crysis with no sweat.

I would "prefer" a pre-built desktop, just not sure where to look. Dell and Alienware are a bit too pricey.

I would look in the Dell outlet. Don't worry about RAM and GPU b/c those can be added on your own. You may find a desktop w/ 2gb of RAM so you'd be set there but you'll def need to buy a new GPU. We won't know what kind of specs are needed to run Crysis until it is out so you may want to wait until you are sure the rig you are buying will actually run the game well.

*obviously your best bet is to build your own w/ that kind of budget.

The dell outlet has some XPS 410's at around $550 with 2gb ram but the processor is somewhat low end. If you budget was more like, $1300 I'd be able to work it better. Some systems are around $950 with Q6600 2gb ram and stuff and then you could upgrade to a 9800 or 8800GTS

Yeah that is exactly what I thought when I checked. Since you can't OC dells he has to find one w/ a higher end CPU and as you stated all of them were close to $1000, leaving no room for a good GPU.
I just checked reg dell home and the xps 410 w/ Q6600, 2gb RAM, 320gb HD, 8300gs = $909 before tax/shipping. So it would make more sense to buy new in this case.

The more I look the harder it is to find a pre built that will "hopefully" run Crysis for $1000

I think dell is still probably the best bet. Maybe you can look to the X2 series of processors instead of the C2D

Alright, AVA direct.com offers this for $920

the owners manual show it has a P965 chipset so it should accept the current 65nm Q6600/Q6700 but it won't take the new 45nm chips intel is planning on realeasing.

you won't find the newest chipset for under $1000, unless you build yourself.

Even built yourself it would be tight when you add in all the accessories like windows and such

Another great option is the velocity micro campus edition desktop. Factory overclocked quite a bit actually, and comes in a pretty package for just at your budget limit. Put a link below for more info.

The 8600 won't be running crysis real high. It's only as good as the 7600 except DX10 capable

For 1500 you could build a quadcore qx6600 8800gts 2gb ram.

Overclock and slaughter

I got my rig from avadirect.com. I ordered it about 2 weeks ago and it should arrive by tues. I defintely plan to play Crysis on it but it will also double as an HTPC. I bought a Pioneer Blu-ray optical drive, PowerDVD Ultra and 7 in 1 card reader from ebay and I'm waiting to install them into my new rig. Hopefully this will handle Crysis on my soon to be Sharp 42" 1080p LCD HDTV. I paid $1685 for my rig. Anyone gaming on a 1080p monitor with DVI>HDMI cable? If so how well do the games run?

Got my system in specs for 750...Try Craigslist...I hit a 16k on 3dmark05, I should be ready for crysis, guess we'll see when it comes out. Plays bf 2142 maxxed 1920x1200 at about 99.9 fps

I hope everything works out for you, my experience with them has been somewhat hellish. Had to fix almost everything you can think of right out of the box

After reading the first post in this ad, there is no way your gonna run Crysis with no sweat for 1000....Even with the Ultra I'd imagine I will run about 40 FPS in High Mode. I built comp below for 1500 after rebates, you could possibly do a 8800GTS 640mb for 1300, but still a little over 1000.
