Try this one:

I had no problems with it...

My Gen2 with the 7800 GTX crashes every damn time at the end of the second loading screen (after the bathysphere tours the city). Both with DELL's 84.69 and the "BioShock drivers" (163.44). With Dells it just BSODs and with the Bioshock drivers it crashes to desktop with the usual "would you like to send an error report to microsoft" messsage.

Anyone else got this problem or got around it somehow?

P.S. Other than the crashing which makes it impossible to play beyond the boring intro, it runs quite well at 1360x765 with all setting maxed except global lighting.

well I fixed it somehow.

it was one or more of these things:
Uninstall old drivers, install 163.44
Uninstall AVG
End-Task all non-essential processes

Got through the whole demo... it's exactly the same as the XB360 demo so no real surprises for me, although I did manage to hack the security camera toward the end of the mission and its bots reamed about 6 baddies for me.

Getting it off of steam now. I tried the demo, got 5FPS on 1024x768 Low settings. I was using NGO 162.18. Upgraded to 163.16, getting 60FPS. I don't know about 163.44, perhaps I'll try it.

it's a beautiful, scary game
I love it I stayed up all night playing it.. I can feel the pain at work today

Im trying to figure out why Im only getting 30FPS at 1024X640 at high detailed areas. Any resolution above that Im only getting 20FPS, and even higher resolutions Ill drop to 15FPS at the lowest (when being attacked). Seems I cant achieve 60FPS unless im staring at a wall or in a corner.

My setup:

Dell E1705
C2D 1.83
2gigs ram
7900GS
WUXGA
Windows XP

Ive closed all running apps, ive defragged my HD, ive upgraded to the latest nVidia Bioshock drivers...not sure what else to do. Any help would be awesome.

Turn down all the fancy settings. Some settings can cause a FPS drop significantly. Turn off global lighting and some other of those settings

Well bioshock the demo runs pretty crappy on my 600/800 7900gsx. The reason being that with this clock settings it reaches 85 degrees c and it becomes very laggy. But then when I put my air condition on and come back in an hour I'll play the game with virtually no lag at peak 77 c. Any1 have any solutions for this?
Anyone having laggy gameplay HAS to have the 163.44 drivers with the mooded .ini like someone else said. You can get it here:

http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7532

I almost doubled frames on my t7400, 2gig, 7950GTX. You have to follow the instructions carefully or you will get a hardware unrecognised error.

I have those drivers

And actually global lighting increases fps turning it off decreases fps but makes the graphics look better.

The Demo ran decent for about an hour but then it STB. Really don't care I thought it was pretty boring anyway

This is your experience w/ the game?
yeah if U switch it on and look around youll notice that it lost a bit of light especially noticeable on doors and windows.

I believe I have found the secert to using the latest NVIDIA driver on my XPS Gen2 with a NVIDIA7800GTX go. It seemed everytime I would install one of the 150 or 160 series driver I would get very chopy game play so I would always have to go back to GeForce Tony's 97.92 driver. With Bioshock the 97.92 driver would BSOD with the message indicating it was trying to write to write-protected memory. I recalled that in the readme file it mentioned that there would be a problem if the system ran out of virtual memory. My system has 2GB of system memory and virtual memory is at 2GB on a hard drive that had only 5gb left. (The swapfile was set for Windows to Manage). I cleaned up some space and set the minimum size of the Virtual Memory to 3GB and then installed the 163.44 beta driver from NVIDIA. Since that time Bioshock has ran great! I can even run at my native resolution of 1920x1200 with a decent frame rate. It is amazing. If I lower the res to 1280x768 and turn off VSync I frequently exceed 60fps. I have all graphics turned to high. There is only one problem; if I play for 6 or 7 hours and leave the system runing I get a thermal shutdown (My system is not overclocked and my house has central air) But as long as I exit out of the game every 3 or 4 hours I am fine.

Just out of curiosity, since we all know BioShock is infested w/ Securom, has anyone had any weird behavior since installing the game? They say this copy protection can do a number on your system. Was just wondering how you guys are managing?

Think a fresh install of Windows will be like never installing Securom? I already installed the demo w/ securom, and I will pwn 2K if it conflicts w/ hardware
post #57 of 174
Yeah, there is tons of talk about that *nasty* Securom. So far though, I haven't heard of anyone having problems with it. I personally think it's just getting blown out of proportion.

And it looks like we are getting to the point now where the people making the games are exceeding the hardware available. A lot of games these days are pushing the 2GB memory limit in Windows, with no real light at the end of the tunnel except to go totally 64bit, and that is still a ways off. And even the best graphics cards today can only play the newest games at "playable" settings (the days of 100+ FPS is over). I think game designers should code their games to play great on mid-level cards, rather than making everyone go out and buy $600 video cards.

My 7800 Go is still a lower top-end (upper mid-end) card, and I can barely play games like DiRT or bioshock.

I agree. I'm tired of paying out the ass to keep a machine up to date enough to play the newer games. The last time I upgraded to be able to play it was BF2. And that wasn't all tool long ago. Next time I will just save some cash and buy the newest console instead.

I think a rig of a 7950GTX, C2D @ like 2.66, 2/4GB RAM would be a substantial gaming system for years to come.

9400
7900GSrev1 @ 600/600
WXGA+ screen
Windows Vista Home Premium
Forceware 163.44

Don't know the FPS , but runs smoothly with everything turned ON and maximum res (1440x900)
