All my rigs specs are in my sig (minus the overclock on the card) and I can't get more than 20-25 FPS even with all settings on low and at native res (1440x900). This really pisses me off. There's no reason I shouldn't be able to handle this game considering it doesn't look THAT much better than other FPS games like FarCry,Half-Life 2 , and FEAR. It must not be a very efficient engine.

Well the system requirements says if your running single core minimum of 2.4Ghz. Your 9300 just barely meets the MINIMUM requirements. So I wouldn't expect it to run perfect

turn it down to 1024x768 or try a diff vid driver

I believe I have found the secert to using the latest NVIDIA driver on my XPS Gen2 with a NVIDIA7800GTX go. It seemed everytime I would install one of the 150 or 160 series driver I would get very chopy game play so I would always have to go back to GeForce Tony's 97.92 driver. With Bioshock the 97.92 driver would BSOD with the message indicating it was trying to write to write-protected memory. I recalled that in the readme file it mentioned that there would be a problem if the system ran out of virtual memory. My system has 2GB of system memory and virtual memory is at 2GB on a hard drive that had only 5gb left. (The swapfile was set for Windows to Manage). I cleaned up some space and set the minimum size of the Virtual Memory to 3GB and then installed the 163.44 beta driver from NVIDIA. Since that time Bioshock has ran great! I can even run at my native resolution of 1920x1200 with a decent frame rate. It is amazing. If I lower the res to 1280x768 and turn off VSync I frequently exceed 60fps. I have all graphics turned to high. There is only one problem; if I play for 6 or 7 hours and leave the system runing I get a thermal shutdown (My system is not overclocked and my house has central air) But as long as I exit out of the game every 3 or 4 hours I am fine.

if you read the readmefile that comes with the demo, you'll see, that they strongly recommend to let the virtual memory be automatically set by the system (there is a setting for that, but as i have a german xp i don't know the exact english expression).

btw: the game runs pretty well on my notebook (see sig). i have around 30-40 fps constantly (max settings, 1280x800, didn't try higher resolutions yet) and it almost never stutters. i am using the stock driver, as i heard nothing good about the modded 163.44 so far.
actually a nice game, reminds me on halflife 2 and seems to be programmend in a skillful way contrary to most other fancy looking games coming out recently, which are only playable if you have a 8800 card. maybe i'll buy it in the future.

I do have manually set virtual memory. I'll try the automatic setting and see how it works.

Anyone know what the blue outline around the dead splicer is? Is it my driver or is it an issue w/ the game engine? Anyone else encounter this problem (look at the boots, gloves)

maybe it means they are lootable

i really find it hard to believe that people with 7900gs can run bioshock at 40+fps with all settings on high without turning any graphical features off and at 1028x786 resolution, especially if the 7900gs is not overclocked...

i have a t7500 core2duo 2.0ghz, 2gb ram, 7900gs and the game is choppy as hell... i have to turn on global lighting (increases framerates), turn off shadows, turn off real time reflection in order to run it at around 20-30fps not smooth enough for my eyes, i think a minimum of 40fps constantly is good

Hmm...

I'm thinking about purchasing this game to see what it's all about.
Only question is, will I be able to run it with good graphics and no lag?

I'll be running it at 1680x1050 (Dell 2007WFP screen).
Other specs are: 1,83ghz core duo, 2gb ram, 7900GS (OC 600/800).

What do you think? Should I get the game? Or will the lag be killing it?

i bought Bioshock same day it came (last friday). i have allready end it, i liked it very much.

i clocked my go7900gs really much, but i could also play with AA/AF on high/medium

It seems to work for some and not for others. I didn't go through with buying the product because I just didn't like the content, but for me...on stock Dell drivers I easily ran the game at acceptable frame rates through the whole thing, settings turned to High all across the board.

However, some people such as Ghaz (if he doesn't mind me saying) is having a problem getting it to run at a good frame rate without lowering the resolution and game settings.

So, in conclusion, I would say that it's not definite that it will or will not run on your computer Sorry mate!

lol the game will be UNPLAYABLE at 1680x1050 on a 7900gs.... unless you turn EVERYTHING off, now if you lower it to 800x600 then you can have all settings on high and the game will just be 'bearable'

my wxga+ true life with high overclocked go7900gs could almost run in Native on High. (i get 5500 in 3dmark06 with @ 580/800. thats faster then a go7950gtx), so it sounds strange if some people can run Bioshock at 1680 x 1050 with a go7900gs or go7950gtx.

You'll get artifacting and crashes before you overload the PSU.
