HELP: m9750 issues

So, I ordered a M9750 or whatever its called, (the new black notebook). I got it around the end of july.
I was very happy that I got a alienware laptop and now I could play some games with my friends.
Anyways, after 2 weeks of using this, one day turned it on and it loaded up everything nicly, I even heard the windows vista loading up sound. But nothing showed up on the screen, the screen wasn't even on.
So I called them and after taking everything apart 100 times he told me that i needed a new video card, so they send me a new card and I replace it with my old one, but it didn't fix my problem.
So I called them again and this time the support agent told me to take things apart again and after talking to him for couple hours my problem wasn't fixed. The he told me that i will need to totaly strip my laptop to check the connectivity to the screen, so I told him to wait, then when I went to talk to him again, it seemed that he had hung up on me. I was so pissed that I paid close to 4k for a laptop and i coudn't use it. Then I called again and this time I told them that I want to return it for a refund, so couple days ago I send it back to them. The worst thing is that they took 15% off the original price to take that piece of junk back. Its the price I paid for buying plus all the shipping to Canada for buying an Alienware laptop. The funny thing is that I had to pay for the shipping to send back the graphic card they send me to replace, cheap basterds.
anyways, I will never buy anything from them again.
If your planning to buy anything from alienware, which I don't recommend, i hope you have better luck than me!

And you don't even know what you ordered?? Uh huh.

"ZOMG, I have no idea what I ordered, why it doesn't work, and come to think of it I can't remember if I opened the screen when I said it was black...."

AW is the devil momma .
would AW actually send a GPU and let the customer switch them out??? I don't think so but IDK.
if the person spent 4 grand on the m9750 then they must of had two vid cards... they probably installed the new video card in the good card slot and left the old one in that could be bad... because apparently they dont even know what they ordered so I doubt they installed the vid card correctly...

very fishy... esp if he doesn't respond.
yeah Ive heard of them sending a gpu if you order another one to place in their but not if the video card is damaged that they would send you one to put in to see if that fixes it... seems fishy seems someone is just trying to start stuff...

Ok, wow very nice responds in this forum.
Anyways, I'm just trying to warn the next person about what they are getting into.
I'm not stupid to buy something without researching, So I did before I bought it, and every review I checked out was good. But none of the reviews said anything about the life of the laptop. Maybe I was just unlucky to get that junk.

Yes, AW does send graphics cards for replacement. But they charged my visa $431 to send it. They said they would pay it back when I send them the old one.
When I called them to say I wanted a refund they wanted me to send them the laptop for repairs, but I told them that I don't have the money or the time to keep sending the laptop back and forth. And I really don't. I live in Canada, and shipping a heavy laptop to miami isn't cheap plus each time AW charged my visa, the bank takes a chunk of $$ to exchange the currency.
I thought if I spend lots of money on the laptop, it would be a good product and last me long time, but unfortunatly it did not happen.

You'd be surprised how many trolls and competitors come on the boards to try and tarnish AW's name. thats why were skeptical. Its understandable your frustration esp living so far away from AW.

Umm, idk what the point of that would be. I'm not saying that AW is a bad company, I loved that laptop (of course when it was working). It ran pretty much any game smoothly. If anyone else has the m9750, could you tell me your experience, I'm thinking maybe I got unlucky this time. If I get good responds from m9750 owners, I will call AW and ask them to send me a new one, without refunding me for the old one, because I shipped the old one couple days ago and it still hasn't got to AW yet. Do you guys think they will send me a new one if I ask them?

Tnx for replying, I checked out your review before, I'm guessing you still have the laptop, what happens when you press Fn+f3? The support guy kept telling me that maybe I pressed that accidelnty and that turns off the monitor, he told me to press it couple times again to see if it would turn back on, but it didn't.
i dont actually. it was a review model. sent back to AW
post #17 of 27
Mine is working fine
when i press Fn+F3 it switches between my monitors that i have hooked up too. It doesnt matter which company you buy a laptop or desktop from there can always be a problem with the machine. technology is not fully proof and things break down just new cars break down. I have a 1964 chevy impala and I dont even have to worry about it because they use to build things better than what they do now.probably because the thing wasnt built in CHINA. Things go bad in no matter what you buy. I've owned a couple of computer from alienware and I have never had a problem from any of mine. You could have been the unlucky one that received a bad lcd inverter or video card...instead of doing to whole refund and losing 15% i would have sent it back and let them repair and it would have been good as new

Oh yeah, you might want to change the title of this thread, might help with less flaming

Hey yashar1...

Sorry to hear about your issues. Unfortunately, due to Canadian customs, Canadian customers end up paying shipping, and it can make things expensive when it comes to repairs...

I've got an m9700, and I've owned five other AW systems. One of the problems with dealing with Alienware is that they're still relatively small with only a few facilities for manufacture and repair. That means if you've got an issue that can't be fixed over the phone, you have to ship the unit back to them for serious issues.

AW tried to diagnose and repair your system over the phone so you wouldn't have to deal with the shipping and time delay without a computer due to shipping back and forth and repair time. Usually, it turns out to be an unseated card, or a loose connection and they can get the user back in business without the costs and delays of shipping the laptop to Miami.

I would contact AW and ask if they would just look at the laptop and see if it can be repaired. It's likely just a bad lcd, or lcd inverter that can easily be replaced. That way you'll end up with the system and only be stuck with the shipping costs.

Alienware usually only charges the restocking fee if you don't let them attempt to repair the system, so if you have the problem again you may be able to return it without the fee.

I've had my m9700 for about a year, and it's been an awesome system. The m9750 is more powerful, but made by the same platform manufacturer as my system so it's likely to be a reliable machine once you get the lcd issue resolved.

Good luck getting this squared away.

And we do get some cranks on occasion in this forum, thus the reaction to your post. Don't take it personally. There are many of us that have had excellent experiences with Alienware so when someone comes in not knowing what he ordered, and that would take the restocking fee without letting AW attempt to repair the system once, it looks suspicious.
