I have also HP wireless assistant installed. When I switch off the button, the light goes red and the HP assistant shows a message bluetooth:disabled and nothing about wireless lan. Same works for switching on the wlan. Can some1 suggest something about it?

Unless you actually have a Wireless Network hooked up (or your near one) you won't see an Icon, cuz there is nothing for it to connect to, both my MX6447 & MX6453 Gateway Notebook's do the same thing (it displays NO ICON) unless I'm near a HotSpot, then it will try to connect to it........the only way to really TEST this out, is to take your notebook near a Hotspot where a wireless signal is present, so, if there is no broadcast near, then NO ICON will be seen!!! I hope this helps..........However, if you do have a wireless lan up & running, and (your near a Hotspot) but you still can't see anything, then you may have a problem with your wireless lan card
