GeForce 8700M GT VS 7950 GTX? Do we know the Facts...

I couldn't find a post like this. Hope it isn't a rehash. Do we have facts as to the real world performance difference between the two, besides the Direct X 10 advantage to the 8700 GT?

if you go to Tomshardware VGA charts, select 8600GTS 256mb vs. 7950GT 512MB.

If you closely compare the clocks on the cards, you will see that 7950GT with 512MB is extremely close to GO 7950GTX (25Mhz core difference), and it is very likely that 8700GT will be lower clocked than 8600GTS. So you can kind of compare them but keep in mind that 8700GT will not be as fast.

hope this helps man. It looks like 7950gtx holds a large advantage...

actually, here's the link for a legit comparison between those two:

Yes, but to the average user that link means nothing. I have just a few comparison numbers here between the 8600 and 7950 but I have not seen any other significant numbers here to compare

No, I cant explain the f.e.a.r. test. The system with the 8600 did have a better processor though. Something like a 2.4 I think.

What about this?

After seeing the numbers of the 8600 vs the 7950 in HL2, I just cant imagine twofold increase from the 8700 over the 8600.

+1

It just seems like marketing bullshit. A 100% OEM overclock? I don't think so.

Anandtech put up a review of the Toshiba X205, currently the only thing around with the 8700M GT.

Probably a good look at what would happen if the single 8700 were used in the m1730. Which doesn't really look good at all. The 7900GTX and 7950GTX just beat the stuffing out of it in high resolutions for BF2, etc. One can only hope dual 8700M's can at least match a 7900GTX in high res or that the 8800 news is true.

Just read the Anandtech review

Moses be holy, the 8700 GT is NOT a flagship graphics card! Slower than the 7950 in everything, and unable to do high res.

This was a thread I created a while back regarding the DX10 VS DX9 series cards.
