Ok we are going to see how this goes, and see if I can figure out polls well enough to cover what I am curious about.

Recently I have seen a LARGE increase in the amount of folks involved in this forum posting in here, I don't think I am the only one. A few CRs hail from the Linux section(Myself, BT, and Darq now) and apparently quite a few Mods now as well.

So this is primarily for my own curiosity, I am going to see if I can keep track of who responds.... Anyone know the current numbers for Mods, CRs, Admins, etc. so we might be able to get a percentage guess here?

And for those that do vote, please feel free to put up a post with what Distros you run for reference as well. By run I mean on any sort of regular basis, for instance I run eLive on occasion on other computers(LiveCD) and will be putting it on my MBP, so I will include that with my distros.

Seablade

Obviously will be voting as well.

EDIT: Dang I just realised I should have put how many NBF folks use Linux for the title, any Mod that hangs around change that for me?(JUst remove the colored name qualifier?)

Ok so to start things off, I obviously voted.. I do use linux, and primarily it ranges around three distros right now.

My Workstation I run Gentoo on
My MacBook Pro will be receiving eLive shortly, and I use it for a LiveCD elsewhere as well
My n800 runs Maemo(Obviously)

I use:

Laptop: Ubuntu Studio
Old Desktop: Sabayon 3.3
Ancient Desktop: Debian
I've been using Ubuntu for close to a year now (wow, has it been that long?) I've also tried Sabayon, but that seemed a trifle more difficult. I'm definitely into the "easy distributions" - while I'm sure that I could probably learn a ton more about programming if I installed Slackware or Gentoo, my patience level just isn't up to it.

I don't......and yes my name is colored...black I believe.
Currently on my laptop, I'm running Kubuntu 7.04, on my kids' desktop I have Slackware 11. On my test box I currently have Sabayon. The laptop will have Slackware 12 once I get a write-up done for tuxmobile.

Heh yea sorry, I realised after I posted I shouldn't have made that title, thus my edit asking for a Mod to change it when they get time. It is kinda pretentious of me to only ask people with colored names in my own opinion.

Everyone's opinions are valid, while I was primarily curious about Mods, Admins, and CRs initially, I am also kinda curious as to the scope of folks that come her, I know I have seen a lot come and go off and on over the few years I have been here now so this section always seems smaller than it is I believe.

dual booting gentoo and vista on my notebook, working on completing a gentoo installation on my desktop right now (which is currently dual booting with vista, but will be entirely linux once I get a new gaming desktop to dedicate Vista onto)

Ubuntu (at the moment) on two desktops. Dbanned the drives before installing Linux - farewell, to Windows Vista, AV, anti-spyware, Vista, malware scans, crashes, corrupt this, Vista, broken that, etc, etc. Now I just have to figure out what the hell I'm doing with the new system.

BTW, have I mentioned that I don't care for Vista? Can't bring myself to spend $100 for a copy of XP to install in a $400 eMachines Vista desktop. Without Vista (or any OS), wonder what the machine would cost?

Have also tried PCLinOS, Sabayon and Gentoo. Gentoo was way too much for me to handle.

/Regard for conda ratchets up several notches

hard to say for sure... less the OEM cost of including Windows, more for the lack of bundled crapware like AOL and other stuff that subsidize the cost on the machine

i think someone compared prices on the Dell machines tho and it usually came out to be about less $50 for a linux config than a windows config... but thats not going to apply to every manufacturer that may do that because they probly eat up costs differently

Dual boot Ubuntu 7.04/XP Pro, currently downloading the V4 distro 7.10 - have not tried any others but an open to suggestions.

I am currently dual-booting Vista and SuSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 4.0. On my laptop, XP Pro and Ubuntu Feisty. I have been trying several different Linux packages lately, and am wanting to get my skills more finely tuned, as I might be getting away from Windows system administration and going more towards Linux system admin.
