M1710 Bad Video Card?

Thread Starter
Here are some snapshots of a freshly loaded XPS M1710 having some kind of Video issue. Nothing is overclocked and using Dell Drivers for Video etc.. Problem happened when playing WOW and in C&C:3.

Any ideas? Bad Video Card? Temps are fine with CPU and GPU.

It seems your fears are warranted

you can try reseating the cable from the display, but I say you need to call dell and get a new Card.

Check to see if your fans are on. If they are, force them higher. Had the same thing a while ago.

Well if temps are fine, i'd just call dell and get 'em to replace it for you. It's a lot more.... hassle free i guess

What was the outcome? I have this issue too, but my warranty has just expired. Figures it would show a problem one month after my warranty expired. By the way, is it possible to just swap out the memory chip, or is it integrated with the mainboard?

The video memory is intergrated onto the videocard.

Try drivers, Try Turning off the LCD and then back on. Meaning Close the Lid and make sure you have the option where the LCD shut's off when closed. And then re-open.

These are not soultions, but diagnostics to some degree.

Hi

I had this problem and I can tell u its not the drivers or the the LCD or the flex cable because I changed them all and last week I changed the motherboard so I hope that will solve the problem if not its the the video card.. u can give dell a call but they will not now whts the problem , so its better to change the motherboard or the video card and wait if its still there change the other part ,my video card is 7950 gtx 512mb, windows xps pro sp2, tried all drivers from dell and the hacked 1 ,,

Try it with an external monitor if you have one. Should help narrow the problem down further.

Can you get into F12 diag mode and check video ram? My 7900gtx just went bad and Dell replaced it with another 7900gtx that lasted less than two days. They just replaced that card with a 7950 gtx. Hopefully this card will last a little longer.

I just experienced this exact video issue on my XPS M1710. I switched screen outputs (Fn-F8) and the problem resolved itself. To me is looks like the video is losing sync or something and changing the output device "resyncs" it. I have only experienced this issue once, and I hope this isnt a sign of things to come... XPS M1710, T7400, 2GB, 7950GTX.

its ,,,actually ,,,ur cpu will be slower after afew months and ur system might die slowly ,,i had this problem and i just got a replacment a new m1730 ,they changed motherboard twice,v.card, lcd twice, lcd cover and flex cable in my m1710 and they coludnt solve it ,,so i recommand start calling them and take a video or a picture for yhe problem and send it to them ,,they will start changing things and let them do it and if u still have the problem ask for a replacment ,,,
