I also found a company that has the hinges for the m5790 and the m7700 heres a picture of the hinge of the m5790. Does this look anything close to whats in the m9700...

Again, its not the hinges that broke. Those things could probably survive a nuclear war. The problem area is the flimsy plastic it is attached to the screen with.

I have the same problem but it not lifted as much as yours is, mine buldges about 1mm a little bit right of the center of the screen, good luck fixing it, i was also wondering if some wires were in the way of something in there, idk though

OK, youre at the first stage. That bulge means that one of the screws have failed but the other is still in place, not allowing it to spread as far as our's have. IMPORTANT, you need to do something about it now, before it gets a lot worse.

ive had it for about a year and 1 month i think, but another thing that happened to my lappy is that 3 weeks after i got it i had it in the alienware messanger bag on a table at my school and it got nocked off by a back pack that some one was wearing and the front right corner got totally damaged right near the speaker that corner. It runs fine though. I was thinking that the buldge me be from that but I'm guessing not now because of the problems ppl are having

i will check it out to see what could fix my more minor problem

Well i dont know if anyone even looks at this anymore, but i have a sad story again. After some work, i was able to get the jb weld. Its been about three months now and everything has been working quite well. ive taken obsesive care on how ive been trating it. Well, just about an hour ago now i opped my laptop and the jbweld snapped. SHIT. well it looks like im going to have to deal with alienware now. Grrr.

you can order Alienware laptop case replacement parts here:
http://www.laptoprepairco.com/search...rand=alienware

I had a problem with my hinge- everytime I closed it I heard this loud popping sound, and I could see the plastic where the metal hinge was attached flexing with the strain. I fixed it though. Appears the hinge was somehow becoming overly tight, I took off the hinge covers, and sprayed them with wd-40. less resistance, and opens/closes smoothly.

So I managed to fix it by screwing in from the other side. Aside from the two smalls screws showing, it was good as new. But now the other hinge has broken which put a tremendous amount of stress on the one I fixed, causing the plastic to crack.

So I think I'm going to suck it up and order a new lid from that online laptop parts place. It looks like it only comes in black, but I suppose a black lid is better than a broken silver one <shrug>.

Anyone know if this will be the most cost-effective way to go? I'm not sure what ballpark amount I would expect if I sent it in to AW. Since they won't just ship out a replacement part that I could easily install myself I'd probably have to pay extra for labor.

Has anyone else with this problem sent it to AW? How much did it cost?
