Rectangular mark in the middle of the screen

Hello,

I have a MSI S420 notebook and yesterday I noticed a darker rectangular mark in the middle of the screen:

It is not a keyboard mark and I didn't put anything heavy on the back of the lid. It's kind of hard to see and it's not visible at all when using black or white backgrounds. This won't happen when using an external monitor so I guess it isn't software related either. A friend said it could be a loose flat cable or something.

This thing is barely visible with normal usage, but I'm kind of worried that the screen will die. Is this a symptom of a bigger problem?

It looks like a defect in the LCD, which may get worse, stay the way it is now, or go away. Or your friend could be right and it could be a cable or the inverter is going out. If you can put up with it, you might as well wait to see if it ever gets worse or corrects itself, unless you feel safe dismantling your notebook to check the cables.

What kind of warranty do you have left on the notebook? if it really bothers you, you can ordered a replacement screen and install it yourself.

I'm covered for eleven more months, but I can't afford to send it back and wait a couple of weeks. I'm writing my master's thesis. I guess I'll have to wait and see what happens even though it's bugging me a lot.
