Alienware Aurora m9700 FPS issues

Hello everyone,

I bought an Alienware Aurora m9700 with two SLI 512 MB nVidia video cards, AMD Turion processor and 2 GB of RAM (I apologize for the vague specs of my computer, I am at work currently but I wil post detailed specs of my notebook if needed).

I am trying to run Bioshock on my laptop, but I cannot get more then 10-12 FPS, even if I lower down the settings. Similarly while playing World of Warcraft, I only get a 30ish to 40ish FPS which dips down to low 10s and 20s in intensive graphics. My CPU seems to be clogging up, the CPU usage is always at 100% while running Bioshock.

I apologize for the vague information about my laptop and the problems. I am not that good with computers; if I can give anymore information that would help I would love to. Help please?

Bioshock is currently having many issues, some of them dealing especially with mobile systems and Windows Vista.

WoW is also having some issues with mobile systems, especially ones with 64-bit and dual core processors.

You can check the technical support forums for each game and ask for possible solutions there.

I've got dual 512m 7900gs's in my m9700.

I downloaded and installed the 163.44 drivers with the modified INF file from laptopvideo2go.com, and bioshock runs pretty well on my m9700.

The 163.44 drivers are for bioshock, so give them a try.

Try it at 1280 x 800, and make sure you shut V-sync off in both the card settings, and the game options.

Good question...

I'm running XP, if you're running Vista, that may be the problem. They're working on getting gaming under Vista better, and they're still messing with drivers.

I have Windows XP and I did turn off the vsync and try it out.. not much of an improvement at all. Also, I would think that at least the laptop should be able to run a 1920x1200 resolution? Its kinda depressing if it cannot

A common mistake that people make is setting there nvidia power mizer to balanced or maximum power savings and it cuts there performance. Make sure it's on maximum performance also you know not to run games while you're on battery power too ... also yea 1900x1200 is hard on a system...

1920 x 1200 is a very high resolution. The m9700 can handle most current games at that resolution at max settings fine, but bioshock is very demanding. I know peeps with fairly current desktops that are having major issues playing the game on high settings.

Remember also the m9700 is a laptop, so it's going to take some resolution and settings fiddling to get the latest, and future games to run well.
