XPS M1710 Video Upgrade

Thread Starter
I have an M1710 with a GO 7950 GTX video card. I also have a Dell 30" monitor that runs at a native resolution of 2560x1600 but the 7950 GTX will not go to full resoltuion. I would like to find a solution to allow me to run my monitor a full resoltuion.

Any ideas? Could I possibly install a Go 8700M card? Would it fit into the 1710 case.

Thanks,

Paul

I feel your pain.

Our laptop does not support dual DVI, that's why you can only maximize your resolution to 1200x800.

We have to hope for the new XPS to have this feature, and that's about it.

Why on he earth do you want replace 7950 with inferior card ? It have the same amount of memory as 7950, so it would hardly be able to do something which 7950 can not.

It's not the graphic card's power that's short here.

It's matter of the GPU not supporing the monitor.

If you want dual link dvi, you'll probably need to buy a macbook pro, or some other high-end laptop with it.
The 7950gtx is probably powerful enough for high resolutions, it just doesn't support it.

Seeing as the DVI port is on the motherboard, not the videocard, I'd say its not going to ever be possible to upgrade to dual link dvi.

i though the cards would at least deo 1600x1200? 1200x800 is pretty shitty, i run games at 1440x900 just fine.

If the monitor is not dual DVI, it would support to what the resolution is on the monitor is my guess. Since it's a dual DVI, it's taking it's native divided by 2.

i think theres a way to input your own resolutions into it, because when i was messing with my 1705 on my tv i remember i input some other resolution for the tv because it was panning and the rez was messed up.
