Upgrading FX1500 To a FX2500

Need some help, I went to upgrade my M90 (currently FX1500) to a FX2500 card, but I think the new card is DOA. What happened was when I installed it and rebooted it showed what looked like blue vertical stitching across the “Windows XP loading” screen, and then it was blank at the login screen. Also I noticed it was hot when I took it out, when it was only in for 2-3 min.

I have a 7 day return on this E-bay purchase but don’t want to waste time in returning it if it’s just a driver issue.

Is it dead?

Thanks for your reply, Should the driver for the 1500 work for the 2500 card?

People have had artifacts when they didn't reinstall the drivers. I'd say the same driver probably will work, but might need to be reinstalled with the new videocard.

I suggest you reboot, press F2 to get the bios setup screen. Firstly, this is before windows loads, so it isolates any driver issue and you can see if the card works in a stable manner (if it doesn't at the bios screen, its a dead card, send it back). Second, it will tell you if the bios recognizes the card correctly.

If that all works then reboot into safe mode (F8), uninstall vidseo drivers, delete the graphics card, reboot again into safe mode and install the Dell (84.29) driver. Finally, reboot into normal mode.

Thanks for the response, I tried again and the system will add the hardware but it can’t boot in anything but safe mode. Also I ran the diagnostics and it wouldn’t read/write to the memory on the card – DEAD!

Don't know if this is of interest to you, and i know nothing about the vendor, but I did notice a 3500M on ebay today

Oddly enough that’s the same place I bought the FX2500, they had one left so I’m in luck. As far as the FX3500 I wasn’t sure about compatibility, I bought my M90 back with “Core DUO” and the FX3500 didn’t exist. Would it Work?
