#3. If you hate the LED's so much why didn't you jsut grab a M90? Slight loss in performance but it will not look so bad.
( Weren't you just complaining about people bitching about the looks?-I believe you called them poseurs)

Sorry, never read your poll so no comment.
Your comment re: dropping $$$ on car that drove well? There are a ton of cars under $45,000 that drive great and look good to boot. Lots of FUGLY cars > $45,000 that look like crap to most around them AND drive bad (Hummer comes to mind). I think looks are pretty subjective and appearance doesn't sway me. I've always been a function over form sort of person. FWIW, I think Lamborghini make some of the fugliest cars on the planet. I've told they perform fairly well.

Face it, the 1730 will be a smoking machine. It doesn't look great to everyone, but it will perform no matter what people try and speculate about. Yeah, I think it's fugly, but I also thought that about the 1710 and it's predecessors as well.
And to answer your questions about the M90, I wasn't even aware that the M90 was a wolf in sheep's clothing (and same form factor as 1710 and 9300) until AFTER I got my 1710. I had some cognitive dissonance about the 1710 purchase a few days after I placed the order because I found out about the M90. The reason I went the route I did is that I loved my 9300 and the 1710 was the only laptop in that form factor that Dell still carried (once again, I never looked at the Precision line before I read about them on this site). I was actually looking at Vostro 1700 (or whatever it's called) and didn't like the form factor at all and it's spec'd poorly.
I wouldn't have got an M90 anyhow because I like the glossy screen (having used one for almost 3 years on the 9300). I ordered one for my boss a few days after my 1710 arrived. It's a sweet machine and looks better than the 1710 any day if that's how you judge a laptop. I much prefer the glossy screen to the matte finish but I like the overall look of the M90 much more. Definitely not a poseur piece. I would have scored a M90 in a heartbeat if it had the same screen as the 1710 and 9300. I set up the M90 is it's VERY fast and I don't game so the marginal decrease in performance was not a determining factor.
The 1730 will be a great machine, regardless of the tacky appearance. In all likelihood, those people whining about the appearance will love it to death once they actually use it. I love the 1710's speed as it stands. Best PC I've ever used. Hard to fathom that the 1730 will be even quicker.
