Help Asus G1s XP Installation problems

Hi

Been trying to install XP Professional on my G1s (new HDD) and all has gone smoothly until driver updates. Slipstreamed SATA drivers into new ISO, all went OK.

All drivers install fine, except I am unable to install video. I also have a "problem" exclamation mark in Device Manager against:

"Mobile Intel (R) PM965/GM965/GL960 PCI Express Root Port 2A01"

which on investigation throws up the error "cannot find enough free resources it can use..etc,etc)

PLease help, any advice from someone who has installed XP on a G1s....

UKlappyman, where did you get your SATA driver for the integration process? I tried the one on Intel's site and it didn't work. Thanks.

I quote from another users post on notebookreview.com forums:

For those who want to install XP on their G1S notebook computers without the USB floppy drive A: here is the method to use nLite to integrate SATA driver (Intel Matrix Storage Manager) into original XP CD and burn a new integrated XP installation CD.

[Step 1] Use your G1S to download the SATA driver f6flpy32.zip, and put it into a folder (name SATA driver) under C:\. After it is unzipped, you get a new file f6flpy32.exe (green floppy disk icon).

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/conf...Name=&lang=eng

[Step 2] Download and install the program WinImage (file name: winima80.exe).

http://www.winimage.com/download.htm

[Step 3] Run WinImage. Click File (on the menu bar) > Open. A small window pops up.

Look in: type C:\SATA driver, File of type: select All Files (*.*), click f6flpy32.exe (green floppy disk icon), click Open. 8 files appear. Click Image (on the menu bar) > Extract. A small window pops up again. Path: type C:\SATA driver, select Extract all files into the same folder, click OK. All the 8 files are copied into the folder C:\SATA driver. Close WinImage.

[Step 4] Download and install the program nLite.

http://www.nliteos.com/download.html

[Step 5] Put your original XP CD into the DVD Drive and run the program nLite and click Next. In the page of “Locating the Windows installation”, click Browse > My Computer > DVD Drive, a window pops up.

“Select where to save the CD installation files for modification”.

Choose or create an empty folder.

Click OK, a window pops up. Click C: > Make a new folder > type New XPCD > OK

The nLite starts to copy all the files of the original XP CD into the folder C:\New XPCD.

Click Next. In the page of “Presets”, click Next. In the page of Task Selection, select Integrate Drivers and Create Bootable ISO, click Next.

In the page of Drivers, click Insert > Single Driver, a window pops up, select C:\SATA driver, 2 selections show up, select iaachi, click Open, then pops up another window, in which there are more than 10 selections, select Intel(R) 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH8M-E/M), click OK > Next, a window pops up with a question “Do you want to start the process?”, click Yes. Take out the original XP CD and put a blank CD into the DVD Drive.

Click Next. In the page of Bootable ISO, select Direct Burn for Mode, type New XPCD for Label, select minimum 4 x (705KB/s) for Burn Speed, then click Burn. The nLite starts burning the New XPCD. After completion, you have a new XP installation CD now.

You can use it to install XP on G1S smoothly.

With regards to the insufficeint resources issue, the solution was to disable PCI Express root port 3 in Device Manager, or to install using only 2gb of memory.

UKlappyman, the integration finally worked. Thank you so much! I looked all over and couldn't find anything remotely as exhaustive as the instructions you just posted. You made my day!...And God bless us every one! lol

dude this is great! thanks a lot this step by step guide really saved me.

if anyones interested ill upload the SP3 pack, its around 330megs but for some reason the integration only enlarged the file by a few megs. i integrated that into mine, it burned ok testing it now.
