Graphics card getting slower as i play a game?

Thread Starter
Hello all i am experiencing something strange. I have a dell inspiron E1705 (9400) with
2gb 533mhz ram
100gb 7200rpm hard disk
T2600 core duo 2.16GHZ processor
WUXGA display
Nvidia Geforce 7900GS go video card

My problem is that when i start a game it runs nice and fast but after a while the game runs slower and slower. The frames per second drop gradually. Eg. playing counter strike source, the game starts out at 90-120 FPS and then as im playing it goes down to 80 then 70 then 60 then averages to about 50 where it stays. I have the fan speeds at high speed and temperatures are at about 65 degrees max for cpu and 75 degrees for gpu which seems normal to me. I have also tried it with dells stock drivers and nvidias new drivers with a modified inf. there was no difference at all.

If anyone has any information about this I would be really greatfull.

Thank you

sounds like heat, maybe the thermal probe isnt reporting heat correctly, but that or low amount of ram is all i can think of...you have plenty of ram though.. try setting the pagefile to zero, maybe its leading more data into the pagefile the longer you play, thus reducing performance

Definitely sounds like an overheating problem. nVidia GPUs will start underclocking themselves when they hit a high temperature mark. You can adjust it in the nVidia control panel, but I wouldn't reccomend it. My first suggestion would be to apply some better thermal paste on your GPU.
