Removing Vista and installing XP: problems

Thread Starter
I bought a Gateway MT3422 laptop. I'm trying to install XP on it instead of Vista, to try to improve performance (it's not nearly powerful enough to run Vista well).

I managed to fix the crashing problem I had earlier, but now I've run into a bigger issue: finding drivers. Gateway only offers Vista drivers for my system, and even though I've emailed them to ask for info on XP drivers, I have a suspicion that they'll just say "We're sorry, but we don't offer drivers for that platform for your system", and I'll just be SOL.

Might any of you know where I can get some drivers for my system?

if u know the devices that u have (manifacturer & model), try go straight to their sites and search for the drviers. Note that sometimes the vista driver that comes with the machines can also be used under xp - try it first and see if it screams

cheers ...

I was handed an MT3421 that had been formatted totally, because it needed XP to run the required software packages. Well after some trial and error I managed to find a chipset driver that allowed the wireless to work, but I can not finish the setup because the wired NIC does not show up, the sound doesn't work and the display adapter is not correct either. I have the list of information based on the serial number that Gateway gives, but it does not tell me enough to find the right drivers. Has anyone successfully backed this model to XP?
