Wireless problem on DV5020us.....

Ok, i decided to setup my machine as a dual-boot, and take linux for a test drive. i have Vista installed, and everything works perfect, so i know the hardware is functional.

I created a second partition for linux, and it worked fine, and installed fine. i installed Ubuntu 7.04 fiesty fawn. Everything works awesome, except it will not connect to any wireless networks at all.

Now, im a newbie to linux this being my first install and never having even seen it before now to play with it or learn it. so.....i'm just not that capable yet. i'm not really even sure how to go about dealing with this.

I know that i have the native drivers for the card that are built into linux installed. i know have the windows drivers installed, and ndiswraper installed also. all show up when i look for them. i can attempt to connect to networks, it shows the log on screen and that its trying to connect but just times out. it will connect wired, though, so its not totally un able to connect.

I have a broadcom wireless chipset, and its a linksys wireless card, built in. i beleive the exact chipset is the 4318 broadcom chipset.

If anyone knows how to solve this, id be pretty grateful. all replies and responses are welcome! thanks in advance for all the help!

well, I'm certainly not the most well equipped to help you with this, but the first thing to ask is what (if any) encryption you're using on the access point? if you have encryption enabled try disabling it until you're able to connect then get encryption working.

I had wpa personal running, and i went into the router and shut it off as a backup, just to see. nothing. i took the laptop to panera bread too, because they have a free wireless access point too, with no encryption, just to see if maybe it didnt want to play nice with my AP. dunno, it just doesnt want to work. oh well.

I discovered today that suspend and hibernate ( in linux) also crash my laptop. i gave linux a try. maybe i will again someday, but for now, ive had my fill. thanks to all for all the help. it has been much appreciated.

thanks again,

ev
