::grins:: I expected as much

ouch I just read 10.5 pounds for weight the news is getting worse by the day. Sli is nice and all only if the game makes good use of it in most cases dual 8700 will be a drawback from the single 79xx series most users enjoy now. I'll have an upcoming comparison to the e1705 vs the i1720 so far I can tell you a lot of 1720 users will feel cheated.

Machine, didn't you know they had to redesign the case to incorporate the shoulder strap attachment

I think they should just dip the components in steel and then put the frame over it all, might as well, it would only make the computer 50+lbs and solid as a rock!

Entertainment center + weapon/shield combo!

I'm pretty sure I'll buy one.

Looks like there are starting to populate Dells site with info and drivers for the M6300 thought.

oo shoulder strap mor eof a reason for people to rob me a nice big visible notebook on my back. On the plus side Id be able to catch a thief lugging an 11 pound atlas.

I really don't think the xps 1730 is ment to be that mobile, it is a DTR.....but nice for ppl. who go to lans or occasionally need to take there notebook w/ them.

Plus, people are complaining that the new DX10 cards suck compared to 79XX when Dell is trying to compensate for that and making a notebook that can handle SLI 8700gt's (may be 8800gt's) so IMO Dell is giving its customers what they asked for.

True, judging by anandtech's early benchmarks of the 8700m, I'd think you'd have to have dual 8700's to even come close to the m1710 benchmarks (which they also included as comparison). Compared to lugging around spectrophotometers, the 1730 should be a feather.

We should all realize that the 1730 is more of a desktop replacement than the 1710. (EG. 2 hard drives and dual graphics and more) It is light compared with the Sager top of the line and many others with the same capabilities. Also it seems Dell will have the first grabs very soon for the GeForce 8800M, imagine dual these with Core 2 Extreme X7900!!

Bit of a shame its going to be a while coming,I was hoping to be able to get the lowdown on it before the return period on my Vostro 1500 expired.

They have to de-uglify the laptop. That takes time

I don't think its any worse than the current XPS with its corrugated iron roof looking lid or those toshiba X205 pics that look like a child has smeared its diaper contents across the lid,or for that matter any of the ribcage designs that alienware has.
I think a lot of people who say its ugly looking now will all of a sudden have a change of heart when they see one in person or see some better pictures at different angles and buy one.....just like they always do.

Yep, that's generally what always happens here...we bash, bash, bash and then get it and finally see the light.

well in this case there are differences that detract from the acceptance of this new generation, which go well beyond the looks of the laptop.

The looks were important enough for YOU to start a poll on it.

And why do you keep chipping in about it,you think its ugly, you think its not that well spec'd....are you still going to buy one?

What do you hope to achieve by going on and on negatively about it,I don't think Dell are going to totally redesign the thing now,and if they were, what options have they got at the moment as far as hardware goes to bring it up to solapathy's expectations.

Dell didn't make what I wanted either,big deal,its only a laptop....move on.
