I did a search of the forum for threads on this problem and found no solution.
The mic port on my Dell Inspiron 1150 randomly stops working. I've got the latest drivers installed from the Dell Support website. It will work fine, then suddenly stop working. It isn't the mic. I've used this mic on another computer and it worked fine. I've gone into sound settings and yes, "microphone" is checked. I've done the sound test and that works when the mic port is working, then it suddenly stops working. I have a Sigma Tel C-Major onboard sound card. Has anyone else experienced this problem and found a solution other than re-installing the sound card drivers?
Update- I went back to the Dell website and looked for an older version of the Sigma Tel Audio C-Major soundcard drivers to test one and see if perhaps the problem would not re-occur. So far as of this morning, the mic port is working, but by tomorrow, we will see if it still is. That's all I've got so far. Bump. Anyone have any ideas other than the obvious- "Get a USB Soundcard"? That's the direction I'm going in anyway, but until I do, I need this to work.
