HP Pavilion dv2000 (Dim Monitor)

Hey people, I bought a laptop HP Pavilion last year (December) and a few months ago the monitor started to get dark out of the nowhere. Whenever the computer heats up or whenever I move the flex back/forth or move the laptop itself...

The image would go dim (even if I can still see what's going on, on the screen) and won't light-up again (unless I beat softly the monitor a bit, but I can't do that forever). For the heating problem I got a laptop cooler, which is fine, keeps the monitor from going dim by itself but still goes dim if I move it.

I heard that most HP Pavilion have this kind of trouble (and the "fix" of this problem can steal me $600). Can somebody please, give me an advice about it?

I don't know if this matters but...Specs:

*Model: HP Pavilion dv2000
*Intel Centrino Core Duo (T2050)
*80GB
*512 RAM
*Windows XP Home

its probably the lidswitch. they go bad on those all the time. just unplug it and be done with it.

LOL by the way a backlight bulb is not a do it yourself replacement, mabey a inverter board is but not a bulb...and yes most likely a lidswitch

If you had the classic dim screen problem due to backlight or inverter it probably wouldn't be intermittent.
If this were the problem, DIY repair is difficult for several reasons. As I understood it when I faced this repair myself, it could be either backlight or inverter. The correct parts are difficult to locate, and if you do find them they are relatively expensive (compared with pro repair) and also non-returnable. So I had to choose between one of the on-line repair services (which cost $125 + shipping) or I could order a inverter for $80ish and hope that solved the problem. I went with the ship it off for repair option with Moniserv Inc. in Hayward CA ($125 +$17 shipping) and was very happy with their turn around time and repair quality. My repaired laptop screen has worked fine in the 9 months since I got it back. Certainly a good option if your screen fails on a relatively new but out of warranty period laptop.
