5672 Power Issues - Power and Email LED stays on and other weirdness

Hey all,

Having a couple issues here with my Acer Aspire 5672.

Recently my battery stopped holding a charge for more than 10-15 minutes... this is expected after about 2 years.

My main concern right now is that after I shut down, the Power LED and Email button LED stay on after shutdown. These are the 2 LEDs above the keyboard all the way to the right side (upper right corner). I recently upgraded to the newest BIOS released a few months ago as well. Don't know if the BIOS upgrade caused the issue, but thought it was worth mentioning.

If I pull the battery and re-insert, the Power and Email button LEDs turn back on.

Also another strange thing is that the WIFI adapter is "off" whenever I boot windows now. I flick the slider switch to turn it back on and it turns back on, but always starts "off" as default now when I boot.

Is this a symptom of the battery going? Symptom of a larger problem? Has my Power Adapter screwed up my hardware? Or is my Acer 5672 starting to "Bite the dust"? Any suggestions or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Would I just be better off removing the battery and running the laptop with no battery until it dies?

Peace,
Maz

I figured out its not the BIOS.

Unfortunately I think its a short somewhere in the notebook. I can get the light to turn off or blink when i lightly tap around the notebook. I took it apart and checked all of the plugs to make sure they were secure and looked for kinks in any of the wires, but I couldn't find anything. Looks like it may be dying soon.

On a side note, I had taken my notebook into CompUSA for repairs under their TAP warranty plan. I stated clearly what was wrong with the notebook (Dead Hard Drive, Overheating, Broken DVD ROM), and they sent it back to me saying nothing was wrong (They did replace the hard drive and the dvd-rom, but thats it). However upon inspection they didn't even clean out the heatsink area, because when I took it apart huge dust balls came out. What a ripoff. Don't purchase TAP Warranties from CompUSA EVER. Now my TAP has expired and I have no recourse as to the overheating issues which I believe ultimately caused the "short".

Oh and ANOTHER thing: When I sent the notebook in for repairs I was not aware of the Acer battery recall. The people @ CompUSA's repair department should have known about this recall and either replaced the battery or notified me of the recall.
