what are the odds of both your alienware notebooks crashing the same day..i have the best luck in the world..im not going to get into details with the sentia but the m5500..it was running vista, now i have nothing against vista, i like it , its just i dont want it now..alot of the programs i use are still not compatible ( peerguardian being one) so i wanted to downgrade to xp..the HDD was reformatted..and i am trying to install the Xp os..problem is after the " press any key to boot cd" screen..nothing happens, the screen just stays black for hours..i thought maybe it was the cd ( alieware respawn xp home basic) so i put the vista dvd back in..( of course bios is set to boot from, cd/dvd first) after the press any key screen, vista installs.and restarts for the first time..only to take me back to " press any key " screen , to install again..vista was install on the HDD about 4 times now...i tried changing the bios again to boot from the harddrive to maybe pick up the installation, but nothing..again just a black screen..what can it be? i called so many techs and they have no idea, but they are still willing to look at it for their insane fees ( 100-200) just to look at it, help me out guys please..

I am sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your notebooks. And all on the same day, Kahledbasha.
Hey, have you tried calling Alienware technical support yet? I know that a lot of people tried and have a lot of trouble with them, but why not give it a try. After all, they did build your notebook right?

I had the same problem when I got my 9750. Thankfuly totalyfrozen got it going for me. Find out what brand your harddrive is then go to the manufacturers website to download their tool that completely erases the harddrive.

You might try downloading a bootable fdisk CD. That fixed my seagate IDE desktop drive.

AW tech support never helps me out..they always give me a hard time..they are worse then Emachines support, you know what those guys do , if you have a problem they cant solve,,they hang up on you..but anyway, doing what you said, downloading the tools for the hardrive would help with installation how exactly..so you guys think its a harddrive problem..you know what i tried..not exactly the smartest thing, but i was just running out of ideas, i cloned my desktop hardrive to my external 2.5 harddrive..hooked it up tot he m5500 , went into bios , booted from "external device" , in hopes of it booting up the OS or something..same ole black screen..so i'll do what you guys suggested..if you have any other ideas , let me know please..anything will help out at this point

oh wow, you'd really do that? .your awesome.

Well the first thing I did was load up the Ultimate boot CD found here and used there tools to remove all the partitions and low level formatted it.

you can also try downloading the Seagate Diskwizard tools here and see if you can do the same with that program as well, I just find the UBCD to do a better job at formating.

let me know if that helps.

np, its a pain to do it but after you remove any partitions then do the low level format you get rid of those vista system files. it took about an hour/hour and a half to format Tates and another to get xp on.

well im running the "hdd erase 3.1" right now, its saying it can take 20 minutes to several hours depending on the HDD, i have a 250gb, so i guess im looking at a couple of hours..after this hopefully everything goes fine...if not what, what else do you think the problem can be?
its almost a given that after you get rid of any partitions and do the low level format that this will cure your problem.. only because its the same problem that Tate had with his. one other thing you might do is reset the bios also or download the bios onto a cd and reinstall it to make sure that its a clean slate you are working with. good luck!
