Sleep Issue

Ok So I'm pretty sure this problem is a windows problem...but I'll just post my specs

[1] Area-51® m5550

Video/Graphics Card: 128MB ATI Mobility™ Radeon® X1400
Display: 15.4" WideXGA 1280 x 800 LCD - Saucer Silver
Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T5500 1.66GHz 2MB Cache 667MHz FSB
Memory: 1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SO-DIMM at 667MHz - 2 x 512MB Motherboard: Alienware® Intel® 945PM + ICH7 Chipset
Operating System (Office software not included): Genuine Windows XP
Wireless Network Card: Internal Intel® PRO Wireless 3945 a/b/g Mini-Card
Communications: Integrated 10/1000Mb Gigabit Ethernet & 56K V.92 Modem

the problem is that whenever I close my lid of my laptop, it will go to sleep, but then hours/minutes later, it will wake itself up.

I have no clue why its doing this

under device manager, I went to all of the NIC's and disabled them from waking up the system.

Heres the software I got: Norton,Trillian, NHC (Notebook Hardware control...i already checked the settings here), and thats it.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

It wakes itself while the lid is closed?

yeah
just recently it did that....it was closed, in standby and all of a sudden it boots up with the lid closed....like 1 hour passed

I even disabled the lid standby option and used the hotkey.....and it would still boot up after an hour

The only things that are running (which are minimized) are trillian,NAV,intel wireless app and notebook hardware control

but I disabled the option of the wireless adapter to wake the machine up.....so i dont know whats waking it up

and it will get pretty hot in my backpack....draining the battery life

One of those programs must be overriding the lid sensor...

I'd just shut the thing off before putting it in a backpack. Even hibernation creates heat, and in a backpack it can't cool itself.

well it used to work just perfectly ..until recently
although I prefer standby mode cause whenever i go to class (in college) I like it when I just open it and its there...instead of waiting 5-7mins for it to boot

Hibernation works just as well but i prefer standby

you think i should exit out of each of the services/programs and see which one lets my laptop stay in standby mode?

I had NHC installed on my 7700 and it actually botched my windows install. It gave me a weird video issue when I tried to boot on battery. I would get a screen full of several hundred semicolons and they would move across the screen. Reimaged and have had no issues since.

But yeah, Hammer has a very valid point on the program per program thing.

5-7 minutes to boot? Holy crap.

I'm not sure, but I thought there was a switch in the lid that wouldn't let the machine come out of hibernation or standby while closed. Maybe you should call tech support and see if it isn't a bad sensor or something like that...

If you think it may be software or drivers, you can always reformat and reinstall everything...
