Well, I'm having a Linux problem which, at least for now, isn't solely the screen resolution.
Just to see if it were possible (for me, that is), I've been attempting to try out Gentoo 2007 with a Live CD - the Gentoo 2006 disc works just fine, except for the resolution, of course
. 2007 absolutely refuses to run and I've tried on two formerly Windows machines, each of which now has Ubuntu installed. 2007 says that the X Server isn't installed and so will not start.
FWIW: I've made two Live CD's using two different machines with the same end result. Also made the 2006 CD which works. I know that I could simply continue with the older version, but I'm too dumb to do something so damn easy.
What am I doing wrong, and/or what should I be doing differently with 2007?
Edit: 2007 works on a friend's Vista laptop, except that it won't connect to the Internet even when using ethernet, though connecting the machine using Vista works just fine.

Its also the most hardcore way

Though you might have better luck, with I believe it is Sabayon, which is a gentoo based distro that might have a Live CD that would work better. Not sure as I haven't looked at it in a fair while now.
