Keep your overclocks @ startup with ATITool!

I'm not sure if this is old info or not. I was having problems with having my overclock settings stick after a reboot. So this is my solution.

Anyway I just want to share it here incase anyone one else runs into the same problem as me.

All you need is ATITool. No nTune no coolbits or anything else. You DO need you unlock your Nvidia BIOS per the instructions "stickied" at the top of this forum. Thats it (aside from ATITool).

Its a simple 2 part process. First open up ATITool and set your "core" and "memory" clocks to your preference. Hit "setclock". Now at the top just below the drop down menu, hit "new" and name the profile "startup" (or anything else as long as you remember). Then hit save. First part done.

Now hit the "settings" button at the bottom left. In the new window that pops up, hit the drop down menu and click on "startup". Check the top box and bring down the drop down menu next to that check mark and click "startup (or whatever you named it). Next, check the second box and hit the drop down menu next to that second box down and click on "registry key".

THAT'S IT!

Again, not sure if this is old news or not, but I thought I'd share this just incase anyone can make use of it!

EDIT: I am using ATITool 0.26. Here is a link to a download for that, just click the button to the top right.

did you remember to tell it to load the overclocking profile to auto load when starting?

yeah .. i think i'll stick with the coolbits .reg unlocked options in the nvidia control panel . . and use the "apply these settings on startup option" for my clocks. doesn't get more simple than that . .

atitool is another option, but why .. . when the unlocked overclock option in the nvidia preferences doesn't this already

I've heard that ATItool will allow for a higher overclock, thats why I would use it

not true: coolbits, rivatuner, atitool all overclock the same. . if all your doing is setting the clock speeds, the program settng it won't matter... (and why would it?)

I only use Atitool to scan for artifacts . . it seems to stress the card well enough, which can aid in determining max/optimal clock speeds.. . which can be set using a lot of different methods

Uh, he's correct. With coolbits, you have to test your clocks before you apply them. ATItool doesnt test the clocks and I think rivatuner has a setting to disable the test.

Fair enough . . i do suppose you have to test the clocks with coolbits, but to me its not been much of an issue (actually I've never had it fail yet), and it probably adds a slight level of safety to your overclocking . ..

but each to his own . . everyone has their perference ..

coolbits dosnt allow as much over clock as ati tool because it limits the amount you can change the clocks, the range it offers is more then enough for most cards but the odd uber clocking card may not be able to reach its peak

Atitool SUCKS Bigtime for Nvidia (mobile) cards, (special go7900gs/gtx)

use stock driver + modded inf.................. and Rivatuner if you want 2 differents OC-profiles.

Thank you leer, I will try that after I go out and tear up the town tonight on a hot date with my wife...

I just upgraded to 7900 GTX in a E1705 and flashed the bios w/Juan martinez gomez's special flashy-madooo .rom filey thingy, and loaded the coolbits jobber, but for whatever reason the clocks always default back to stock -----meh. So a better solution is always welcome.

heh heh, thanks! Okay I've tried nVid, rivatunr & atitool and they all give different max clock speeds. I dunno, maybe I should just stick with one. On ATITOOL: when I test for artifacts, it shows artifacts but says "no errors for xx:xx". What gives? Do I just notch the clock speed back until there are no visible artifactS? Also, ATITOOL will let me overclock up to 1400 mhz for the memory, wheras Rivatuner will only allow me to go to 800 or so. What gives? Is this a memory timing thingamajigger? When I set it to 1400 in ATI then open up Riva it shows 1400. I'm thinking of underclocking my card just to be different.

Rivatuner may just show frequency rather than "ddr effective frequency". So multiply it by two. Anyway, I think atitool's scanner keeps looping. So even if it finds errors it continues. I think they make this evident by showing how long the test has been running as well as how long you have not had errors.

Really, all you want to do is OC to the limit to which you have max performance and no artifacts in whichever games you play. Of course, there's no point in pushing the frequencies even within 15 mhz of the boundary as the performance gain will be minimal. Hence, you can put less stress on the card at no loss.
