Buying c90s need help

Well, aparently I gathered up money to buy an Asus C90s, but my limit is around $1450 or so depending on how much i get this week.

Configuring the Asus c90 over gentech, I decided things that are absolute must--- the 2.4Ghz CPU and 2GB of RAM

I wanted to get a 7200rpm drive, but may get too expensive so how different is a 5400rpm dirve? i've been using a 7200rpm drive for a couple of years now, so im used to rather quick responses but then again i changed from 4200 to 7200, never used a 5400 drive.

Also how much different is getting unknown RAM versus the likes of Corsair or Kingston? no-name brand is much cheaper, but how fast and reliable is against corsair or kingston?

What do you guys recommend? either 2GB of random RAM makers, and a 100-120 GB 7200rpm hard drive, or 2GB of corsair/Kingston RAM and 120-160 GB 5400 RPM?

please help me, i need to decide which component combination will give me overall best/fastest performance at a decent price range.

I'd go with the random RAM makers and the 7200RPM drive- you'd get faster load times and there tends not to be much difference between RAM brands (from what I've seen)

Thanks a lot from your input, djembe! Im actually leaning for that choice for now... So far it seems ill get more performance out of that combo with no-name brand RAM and a 7.2krpm drive.

cant wait to buy this machine.

You think they will release the 8700GT anytime soon? I wouldnt mind the 8600GT that comes with the machine at all, if it werent for the DDR2 memory, instead of GDDR3.

According to what MilestonePC posted over at NBR, they're supposed to release a total of 5 graphics cards for it between release and January, so in all likelihood one of them will be an 8700 GT, but I haven't the faintest idea when they're planning to release each upgrade.

Well I have a couple more questions, hope that someone can help, especially GentechPC.

Im gonna order either today or tomorrow, and a friend of mine had previously ordered another Asus C90, he told me that over at gentechpc they dont charge you the order until it is ready to be shipped? that means that i can place the order right now without paying until the order is assembled?

also, this is rather important, i was reading alot bout the C90s and some people had heating issues due to bad RAM and because they placed incorrectly AS5 or the thermal pad on the CPU. My doubt here is... Over Gentech they seem to know what RAM works, but what would be best for the CPU, AS5 or the thermal pad that comes with the laptop? I plan on keeping this machine for a long while, so can someone give me the best option for less heat?

I was leaning for AS5 until I read about people having problems because of using it. Most probably they didnt properly place the thing but still... I want to avoid problems.
