Computer Update

Well my 7950GX2 Extreme, tested faulty, so from the sounds of it they are going to give me a 8800GTS 640mb which really pisses me off, I dont want that low end card, but whatever....Anyways on a brighter side, I added a case fan and a 4 fan control unit, and wow awesome. Looks like it dropped the GPU about 6 degrees and the cpu about 2 degrees, so thats good.

anyways updated pic, and i'll let ya know which card xfx ends up giving me.

You are mad because they are giving you a better card?

That 8800GTS will out perform that 7950.

I have a 7950GX2 Extreme edition....Its a sweet card, and that 8800GTS performs I mean EVERRR so miniscule better, i'd rather have a top of the line older card, then a low end new card.

Umm why the hell would you ever want that? The 8800GTS will play in DX10, and DX9 both of which better than your old 7950GX2..... Never should've assumed you'd get a 8800GTX because now that's why you're pissed

YOu are prolly right...My question which may be stupid, is do games utalize Direct X 10 right now? LIke BF 2142, does it utalize it or no?
Nope, most current games don't utilize it, but upcoming games will be (fall) Such as Crysis which will be coming out November 16th
post #7 of 75
Yeah wow, don't be mad because that new card > your old card.

The 8800 640GTS is a screamer.

AGAINNN, I have the 8800GTX and I don't see any difference from my 7950 GX2, you can read stats and benchmarks all day long, i'm telling you actual game play I see no difference.
Okay....Chill. You asked how the GTS could be a screamer vs the 7950 GX2 and I gave you a small sample of the benchmarks I saw all over google. The major consensus in this thread and of all the opinion's I've read on other forums and google is that the "low end" 8800 GTS beats out the GX2 in terms of Frame Rates and Features even when both are OCed. Now, if you're displeased with getting a better card and you're going to piss and moan over something trivial like this than I suggest you take the replacement 8800 GTS and either trade it or sell it on Craigslist/Ebay to get another, albeit lower end, gx2. EDIT: Interesting conversation on NV Forums. http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=82744 Quote from one poster

The GTS is the clear winner in image quality. All Geforce 7 series cards have angle-dependent AA, so antialiasing looks inferior to both Radeon X18xx/x19xx cards, and to the Geforce 88xx which beats both ATI cards and previous Geforce cards for AA quality. Also, the Geforce 7's cannot do AA and HDR at the same time. Clear win for the 8800GTS. Video playback quality is improved, and HQV scores are higher. Win for the GTS over previous Geforce 7 series cards. That, and you get hardware-accelerated H.264 video. This isn't even going into performance; the 8800GTS wins in many cases, and is neck-and-neck the rest of the time. The only real downside to the Geforce 8 series is that its drivers need to mature some. It isn't a deal-breaker, but it's something to be aware of before you purchase one.

see the word for today, you only see what your eyes want to see

benchmarks dont lie, 8800gtx gts will outpreform anything of the 7k series from what research ive found

you should be happy, having an old gen card and getting a new gen card

even if you cant "see'" the diffrence

LOL, funny twilighty...I have just a 2405fpw, nothing special.
Even if they do perform the same in your eyes...it is a newer card and can play DX10 games. Can't argue that, I can however see where you'd expect a GTX, I don't know how the XFX warranty works but it seems silly not to send you the GTX.
