vaio VGN-CR120E vista to xp downgrade

Thread Starter
After a month of wasting time with vista, today I tried to install XP professional but with little success.

I formatted the partiition that had Vista, as NTFS, through the XP setup and the setup appeared to run normally but after a while, with 34 minutes remaining of the setup, the system hangs.

Anyone got any suggestions on what I should do next? Anyone got a working XP environment on one of these laptops?

For the sake of others in the same position I found that I needed an xp install disk that had already got SP2 on it. A regular XP install disk just doesn't work.

I ended up learing about a procedure called "slipstreaming", that I knew nothing about. A google for XP slipstream will find many hits that explain the process of creating a modified XP setup disk.

I'm having the same problem and its frustrating. I have talked to Sony about the Vista issue in general and apparently they have had quite a flood of calls from people wanting to downgrade back to XP. Found a couple of other items of interest regarding this: http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/os/xp...voe_en_GB_cons http://www.css.ap.sony.com/vaio/Vist...%20Accessories They told me the XP driver package would be available in about a month. If anybody has a fix for the basic XP installation, let me know After posting this, I realized there were replies I had not read. I can now confirm the requirement for the XP Install disk WITH SP2. When I bought a new disk that included SP2 the installation went fine. HOWEVER, Now that I have XP, the lack of XP drivers is a big problem. I was able to find a driver for the Wireless card at the intel website http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Prod...ProductID=2753 This got my wireless connection working, but I can't find a driver for the wired Ethernet connection - Realtek RTL8101. Also, I was not able to get my machine to install an external hard drive, but it did recognize and install a flash drive

I too "downgraded" my brand new VGN-TXN27N to Windows XP. The only issues I have are: - Cannot eject CD/DVD via software - Cannot change sound volume via hardware The ejection issue is particularly annoying. Thanks for your help. -Ramon

I Too would like to downgrade my VAIO to XP. I really hate VISTA. I believe I have the CR 220E-R model. Thing is, when I look underneath it, it says PCG 5J2L.

I have the Sangria Red, 200 gig, 2 gigs ram etc model.

Please help me find all necessary drivers for this thing for XP?

Thanks again.

This site now has all the xp drivers for those SONY customers who HATE, DESPISE, VOMIT, CURSE, and HATE vista. I for one just think MS should give us all our money back and pay us for the time spent trying to work out the bugs of this POS.

Good luck and let us all know how it's going. I for one am going to install XP pro. Far better and works with existing software and apps. Pista is like going backwards in time to Windows 3.0 when you had to reinstall the os each time you installed a new app.

SUX like a cheap whore.

Anyone got any luck on downgrading/upgrading to Windows XP on this?
It seems the video, display functions, ethernet drivers are the main issues.
