I'm having the same problem and its frustrating. I have talked to Sony about the Vista issue in general and apparently they have had quite a flood of calls from people wanting to downgrade back to XP. Found a couple of other items of interest regarding this:
http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/os/xp...voe_en_GB_cons http://www.css.ap.sony.com/vaio/Vist...%20Accessories They told me the XP driver package would be available in about a month. If anybody has a fix for the basic XP installation, let me know After posting this, I realized there were replies I had not read. I can now confirm the requirement for the XP Install disk WITH SP2. When I bought a new disk that included SP2 the installation went fine. HOWEVER, Now that I have XP, the lack of XP drivers is a big problem. I was able to find a driver for the Wireless card at the intel website
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Prod...ProductID=2753 This got my wireless connection working, but I can't find a driver for the wired Ethernet connection - Realtek RTL8101. Also, I was not able to get my machine to install an external hard drive, but it did recognize and install a flash drive
