Nice find's sleey0,don't know if mr dell would be too happy about it at this stage, but I won't tell anybody

Great find. I bet Dell would be a little upset but oh well.

Nice shots of the SLI card setup...

Dual hard disk caddy with cheap cheesy ribbon cable ala E1705 style keyboard connector...

Notes state that the hard drives on this system are not CRU's aka, a technician HAS to install them for you or your warranty becomes void... Slick move there Dell...

After looking at the heatsinks underneath the video card fans im sure dual 8800m will be fine in there , thats some serious cooling solution for video .

Soo tempting must resist the urge to order one
post #7 of 35
I trust the fact that they do not even mention anything but the 8700 GPU that this laptop will hopefully take the 8800 series GPU when it does come out

I still hate that the touchpad is offset on this
post #9 of 35
LOL, damn... I still can't believe how incredibly ugly the 1730 is going to be. Ugh. Dell needs an aesthetics department or something.
Its got dual-256MB cards, not dual-512MB ones...
Yes the touchpad is offset compared to the system itself, but it is actually nearly centered to the main keyboard section - which is where you want it to be. Thank the addition of the num pad for that.

I have just gone through the entire manual for the system. EVERYTHING is modular in this thing, which is a big plus for Dell and the users. The audio jacks are on their own little board finally, so no more entire mobo changes just to fix the broken crackly sound anymore. The physics card and CPU share a fan, and a two piece heatsink assembly. BUT get this... the CPU is UNDERNEATH the mainboard! How wonderful that is for potential cpu swappers

Other things of interest... Digital Array Microphone - basically a right and left channel mic assembly that lets you simulate a 3 dimensional recording. Limited value to an avid gamer I suppose (unless you want to sound like Zeus to your WoW buddies while raiding...) 2MP webcam in the bezel, supporting 10FPS vids at 2MP, and 30FPS at VGA quality. Of course the gaming LCD, which is designed to display pertinent info from the game you are playing at the time (can see this being used by a WMP or Winamp plugin to display song titles in the future)

There are 3 MiniPCI slots total in the system, though not all three can be used with the same card types. There is a dedicated WLAN slot, which will ONLY work with a Wireless network card. There are 3 antenna wires associated with this slot for either a/b/g hookups (2 wire) or with a draft N type card with the third aerial for MIMO. The second slot is designated for a WWAN card (broadband access type card from a cellular carrier) and there are two antenna connectors dedicated to this slot. The WWAN slot can also be used for FCM aka the Intel Flash Cache Module aka Robson. The third slot appears to be a basic PCI-E 1x slot that could likely house any card (more than likely it will support the Wireless USB standard once there are cards for it.)

32GB SSD (Solid State Drives) appear to be included as an option now too. It'll be interesting to see how many people choose this option...

Anyway, nice find Sleey0. Definately some good info on there!

Oh yeah, LED colors!

Keyboard backlight does not change like the rest of the LED's...

Even though I plan on keeping my 1710 I can't help but be curious how much this monster is gonna cost.

Just look at the above post showing the colors the LED's can change to. This seems to indicate you must first rob a jewelry store in order to afford this notebook

That SLI setup better be able to at least reach the 7950GTX's performance or it might not be worth it. That 128bit memory interface is not very appealing.

Cool link tnx. Does anyone know if the default is SLI or you have to pay extra to get another card?
Default is single card
Technically it's single card either way you order it, since the SLI option lays out the 2 GPU's on one PCB - but then you probably already figured that out

More than likely though, the lower end options will be a single GPU solution, and my guess is that it will be on the same dual GPU PCB, but with the second cards components removed - thus leaving the board blank on that side... Then again they may do the single GPU setup with a smaller board. There is no info anywhere yet about a single GPU option though, so we will just have to wait and see.
