Laptop with Docking?

Hi, hope eveyone is having a nice day. I'm in need of a simple (inexpensive) laptop which has a port for a docking station. I am going to get two docking stations; one for work and the other for home. I do not plan to use this laptop for much other than checking my email, using spread sheet, creating word documents etc.. Does anyone have a suggestion on which laptop would be best for my situation? Thanks in advance for your help.

docking stations fell out of favor a long time ago. as far as i am aware besides IBM/Lenovo hardly anyone else features that stuff anymore. there are some generic port replicators out on the market that work with various systems...but again its no docking station per se as what you are looking for.

Actually there's more than IBM/Lenovo abf. That and there are a few corporate customers of mine that use docking stations quite a bit. In addition to Lenovo Thinkpads having docks, Dell's D series Latitudes have two options for docking. HP's business laptops also offer a docking option. I even think there's a few Toshibas with that. However if you want something inexpensive, Dell's Latitude D531 can be had for $699 with a dual core AMD processor, 1GB of memory, and full docking station support with the DDock or DPort. Also comes with Windows XP and a standard 3 year depot warranty.

Now as for the dock, don't purchase it from Dell. It's terribly expensive. Instead go on eBay for them, they are MUCH cheaper there.

Thanks so much. This is annoying how Dell is not allowing Home/Home office to buy this laptop. But I guess this is "business."

Its not that Dell doesn't allow home customers to purchase a Latitude. It's just that Latitudes do not sell at all to home customers. So Dell keeps them in the small/medium business section. Which is appropriate. Inspirons have features that are comparable to the offerings on the shelves at big box stores. Latitudes lack several features home users would want in a Laptop, but are perfectly fine for corporate buyers. You don't typically see too many average home users with Thinkpads these days either.

If you really need a true docking station, try Dell Outlet for a refurb business laptop with a last-year's edition (as in not-so-fast) processor. But then if all you're going to use your laptop for is what you stated, you can accomplish the same thing with a couple of USB connections and save the cost of buying two docking stations.

If you want the real docking stations and the laptop to go with them, try eBay! An amazing resource for computer stuff!
