How many of you are waiting for a higher screen resolution?

Im wondering how many people on here are waiting for the higher resolution screen on the 17" widescreen?
Me.
Waiting for WUXGA and the newest graphics card update.
June is when I'm looking to order. If no WUXGA then I'll order, but I do want the newest graphics card in there to play D3 and HL2 with all eye candy on.
Right here... When WUXGA becomes available so do my dollars. Would buy an Inspiron XPS except only 1 hard drive. (I do a lot of I/O intense work, I have to be mobile, and I need as much screen space as possible).
Me too!!

I'll submit an order as soon as the WUXGA appears as a 17" screen option...I might even settle for a WSXGA+ screen.
I will settle for SXGA. I was about to pull the trigger on the 8790 since I thought any hires screens were 6 months to a year away. Hp put an end to that. The only reason I didn't go HP Before was since the go5600 is crap.

I am waiting for reviews on the go5700 and the screen in the next week or so. If the 5700 is even 90% of the 9700 in speed i'll be happy. I would perfer the 8790 with the higher res screen but if it isn't available and there is no ETA on it the HP will do....

Simple fact is that I am not the type to change the screen down the road. So future upgrades are not too important.

I look at it this way. There is alway a better upgrade that is around the corner. You have to draw the line and just buy for today unless you know for sure there is a upgade within a month. Because if your waiting for the hight Res LCD's to come this summer, guess what! The 3.6 Ghz to 4 Ghz chips will be around the next corner! Then the ATI 9800 will be around the next! I hope you see were I'm going. Just my 2 cents

corrupted, i totally agree.

personally the res right now on my 8790 is perfect! i think any bigger the words would be too small.
im going to try wait for the next step in res..but who knows....

I just think there's a BIG difference between the WXGA and WUXGA screens. You can always upgrade a processor, but you're pretty much stuck with the screen. As with everythng, it all comes down to personal preferences.

I'm going to be purchasing an 8790, but since I don't need it until July, I'm going to wait to purchase until June to see if a better screen option is available. WSXGA would be sufficient for me.

I see where your going, I always think about that issue and I think a lot of people dropping 2-3 grand think about that too. Personally I think the specs on the 8790 are nice. A 3.4gig with the 9700 is a nice setup and it should last a while. Plus if and when a WUXGA comes out this summer those specs will be cheaper or you just spend more and get the current technology.

Same here, waiting for either WUGXA or WSXGA+. The WSXGA+ appears to be available from LG Philips. As somebody noted before, HP say they will ship it in a couple of weeks. If Sager comes out with an 8790 with this display in the next few weeks, I think I will just go with it and not wait for a WUXGA.

I know some people are very happy with 1440x900, but not everybody uses his/her computer for the same tasks. I do software development so high resolution is a must. I currently have a 1600x1200 15", so I would really see downgrading to a 17" 1440x900 as a huge drawback.

I checked out the 17" 1440x900 at a computer store the other day. They had the 17" Powerbook, the HP zd7000, and a Toshiba. The display looked fine on the HP and Toshiba, but it appeared to be dimmer on the Apple. Anyway, the conclusion was that it was an ok display, but not for me!

Some of the screens I have seen on the 17" widescreen look decent, I have never seen the one on the apple but Ive heard from a few people they dont like it at all. I think if I was only using a laptop with the 1440x900 resolution for games or surfing the web or writing etc... I would go with that screen but I am going to be doing a lot of Maya and Photoshop work on it so the higher res the better.

What resolution will the WSXGA have?
WSXGA+ = 1680x1050

HP's new screen for its 17" ZD7000 is WSXGA+.

There isn't too high a resolution as far as I am concerned. AA is OK for some things, but with fine line work, it sucks. So, the higher the better. You can adjust for the font sizes.

OK, OK, 32768 x 20480 is a little bit too high but I could live with it.

Actually, with a 17" screen at 24" from your eye, your visual accuity will poop out at around 4000 x 2500. But I'm game up to there.
Given that current 15" are 1920x1200, it is almost reasonable to expect 17/15 of that for a 17", i.e. something like 2176x1360. I guess we may have to wait a year or to for such a resolution however.

Yeah, that would be awesome to have 2176x1360! I would settle for WUXGA tho. 1920x1200 would be perfect on a 17" screen.

Well my eyes "pooped" well before that benchmark and I can't see $#!+ that small.

I would do the same, but unfortunately the zd7000 does not support RAID, and that's a killer feature of the Sager/Clevo. Also, HP asks for about $2K for 2GB of RAM, which is completely insane (even worse than Dell!). Given that it is hard to find this kind of RAM independently right now, that's a turn off. And I need 2GB, that's actually my main reason for upgrading, although I won't mind a faster CPU too.
