Hi,

I planning to buy and laptop cooling pad and don't know if I should buy a USB one or a plug in the wall one? Is there a difference?. And if I use a USB one will it use alot of battery? Only have 2.5h's. Oh, any recommandations, not so expensive?

Thank you

with normal usage, u should not be needing a laptop cooler. making sure that air flow is clear underneath the laptop is more than enough in any case. personally i prefer a cooler that is NOT connecting to the laptop, a silent one (no fan)

cheers ...

ill sell you the best laptop cooler in the world

4 water bottle caps, put them under the feet

thats a huge diffrence in temp, laptop coolers are kinda lame and cheesy and flimsy and dont do that great of job

google for reviews, or find some coolers at xoxide.com

make sure to read the con's, it may cool it but how many deg's?

keep in mind its bright blue leds you cannot cut off

bit nosiy as well

honestly tho i cant see why youd need one, i live in the south, its over 100 degs some days, my laptop stays on 24/7 aside from updates, and its not even remotely hot to the touch, it has an ATI x1700 vid card

to compare, i used it on my acer 5672, ask anyone in the acer subforum its the hottest laptop they have made to date i swear, its super freeking hot

i put bottle caps (like walmart water) under the feet, and it was a bit better, not night and day but defiantly better, you can feel the air moving below it, the caps were about a tad over 1 inch tall

actually it was very sturdy, and somthing kinda cool, i could move the laptop easy around the table with it on the caps

Ok. I can confirm the water bottle caps do make a difference. My xps has been running hot lately and I already opened it up to clean out the fans. Ii didn't want to put a book under it cause my memory seems hot to the touch and I didn't want to obstruct air flow to that area. So i tried the water bottle caps. Doesn't really help with idle temps but it does make about a 4-5 degree difference when I'm gaming.
Thanks for the very cheap yet somewhat effective idea soulsaver

I got a black cookie cooling rack from Target for <$5 that is the same size as my 17" Hypersonic. It gets it up about 1/2" with no obstruction underneath, looks nice, and is easier to set the notebook onto than the bottle caps (great idea, but what if you knock over those 4 un-capped bottles of water onto your keyboard? jk)

Forgot what test it was but was rated the best for cooling your laptop, even better then the fan ones you can buy.

But then again you can go to Lowes/Home Depot and pick up some bits and machine one out if you go to college or something

I bet that's alot more stable than my bottle caps. I put little felt pads on the bottom of the caps to keep my lappy from sliding all over the table!!

I use a Targus ChillHub. This is one of the newer ones with the ports in the back and fans that flow air under the laptop. It was 55 at OfficeDepot. I like it mainly for the hub though.

Nice everyone got a nice cooler.. but guess what, my cooler is my cheap laptop bag... and it separate heat to my lap greatly and cool down laptop insteadly while gaming. No power and no extra space required to pack it, it packs my laptop. lol
