?

Q6600 is 2.4ghz.

I'm in the same boat you are in now, I've decided to go Q6600 G0 stepping. For Future proofing and from what I've read, the Q6600 is better all around.

if you got the bones to spend, do it, if not and youre realling wondering which is better

get dual core, not much is writen for quad core really, and its still rather new technology, hence pent D vs conroe, id say give it time to devolop

Unless you're going to use the computer for heavy encoding, rendering or CPU intensive stuff you don't need quad core really.

Dual core will be more than sufficient for gaming or regular computing stuff.

Why would you upgrade the processor you have now? The E6400 you have is an insane overclocker and I don't really know why you would upgrade...you're running 6850 speeds for a bunch less cash.

If you need to, I went with quad core because for the same price....you get most likely better longetivity

Ok well I sold my e6400 for 100$ and 3 hard drives that came with my comp for 80, so was a 120$ upgrade to the e6850....THE RESULTSSSSS

E6400 OC'd to 3ghz hits a 16493 on 3DMARK05
E6850 NO OC hits a 17586

I hit a 17500 or so OC'd to 3.5 GHZ on the e6400
I hit a 19093 OC'd e6850 to 3.6ghz

SO the e6850 is a proven winner and worth the money, YAYYYYY!!!!

I love how after all of your "synthetics" lectures you bring up that the reason it's good is due to synthetic benchmarking.

Its not benchmarked, I kept it at 3ghz to see what it would score, and it scores higher then a oc'd e6400 at same speed.

Next question...I only have a 500watt power supply, would it make a difference in score if I upped it to a 600 or 650watt?
Yeah, again...it's still synthetic regardless of speed....

i'm confused at what you mean....The e6850 is stock at 3ghz no OC and the e6400 was oc'd to 3ghz....So i'm confused at what your saying?
My point is that synthetics mean nothing...if there is an in-game difference, then it may have been worth it.

Then why do people try and get over 30k on 05????Cause its all about numbers. I'm not claiming it does have better in game performance, i'm just putting out numbers for people.

Sorry, just seemed #'s only mattered

Dude, in the test, yes numbers only mattered, i'm not claiming in game is better, just that it scores higher, nothing more.

I was merely stating NO Overclocking the 6850 is a better processor.

to be e-cool

if you get eleventybillion jigawatts of 06 3dmark, you can still get 30fps in FEAR at highest settings

what that dude is saying Rock, is that running synthetic benchies means nothing it doesnt put you in any class.....

download FRAPS and run the games you have then post results, compare it to others

and i thought you said you had money trouble so you bought that comp? why upgrade everything when it runs everything just fine? you are not seeing any increase in preformence

I know what you're saying rockin. I always go on newegg and get tempted even after just buying my high line PC and yet I am just constantly feeling the need to bleed money

According to our tests and numerous overclockers’ reports online, quad-core Core 2 Quad Q6600 processors can overclock up to 3.6GHz with proper air-cooling. In this case they can perform better than Core 2 Duo CPUs overclocked to their maximum. Moreover, we see this tendency even in those applications that are not optimized for multi-core processors and that are getting fewer day by day. As we saw there are very few tasks left, where overclocked quad-core processors cannot outperform overclocked dual-core CPUs. They defeat their rivals not only thanks to twice as many computational cores, but also thanks to twice as large L2 cache.

So, we think Core 2 Quad Q6600 seems to be a much more attractive offering these days than Core 2 Duo E6850.

Multi-Core Confrontation: Core 2 Quad Q6600 vs. Core 2 Duo E6850

like I said before, get the Q6600.

thank me later.

edit: You asked last night which to get, I said get the q6600, that very night you bought the E6850 anyways? lol, did you already buy the damn thing before you posted this thread?

Power supply has nothing to do with computer performance, computer performance is based more on the speed of the other electronic components that conform it.

The power supply only provides electrical power to the electronic components in the computer.
